View Full Version : The perfect movie for a dedicated theater!!!
DucatiDad 10-29-08, 09:30 PM Now I know that this isn't the place to discuss movies but this pertains to all of us with Theater size screens. Last night I watched "Journey to the center of the earth" with Brendan Fraser in 3D (wearing 3d glasses) on Blu-Ray and it was AMAZING. I dont think that you could even get close to the same sensation watching that on a screen say 50 inches or smaller. The screen just "popped". You could visually focus on each "layer" in the 3D environment and each layer was full of detail. In many scenes, the 3d image appeared to get within 1 foot of my face, causing me to flynch in more than a couple of scenes. The visual effects are incredible and it took my eyes about 10 minutes to get used to it. The sound was pretty impressive as well. For any of you that have seen this in your theater in 3D please chime in because you know what I am talking about. This is a must buy. It comes with 3 disks. One is a digital copy, one is 2d (blu-ray) and the final disk is the 3D version in full 1080p glory.
Check it out, you wont regret it.

I so wish I had a short list of firsts, I have been putting off watching movies until my theater is done. I still havent seen the third Star Wars or the last Lord of the Rings. SO that kinda gives you an idea of the movies that I have to watch, plus the ones I have to rewatch.
mn_hokie 10-30-08, 12:34 AM I don't own the movie anymore, but I had it in my last theater - Shrek 3D. My mom picked it up for the kids when she bought Shrek 2. It was actually very cool and I was impressed with how realistic the 3D was. I honestly wasn't expecting much out of it, but it was super cool.
They have rollercoaster videos in 3d as well. Basically taken from the front seat of several popular rollercoasters :)
javadoc 10-30-08, 08:09 AM I've been thinking something like a "Band of Brothers" night/marathon would be one of my first viewings, actually. I have it on SD-DVD, but might pickup the Blue-Ray version, if it'd make any difference. Possibly "Full Metal Jacket," because I think some of the sequences in the movie would be flat out amazing to see on a big screen again.
Of course, the LOTR movies, Star Wars (III through VI...), Iron Man. My list goes on...
imscottr 10-30-08, 10:16 AM +1 on Band of Brothers. One of the best all around movies I've ever seen. Very well made!!
scaesare 10-30-08, 10:52 AM We did Jurassic Park.
What's the 3D mecahnism for Journey...? Red & blue glasses?
dc_pilgrim 10-30-08, 01:59 PM Consider watching stuff with a good music soundtrack. We opened to Transformers, but the Johnny Cash Bio-pic (Walk the Line), was really a great experience. Maybe not opening night, but put that kind of stuff on the list.
antwon412 10-30-08, 03:00 PM i think we did transformers......great special effects, great sound
speed racer is cool too. AWESOME visuals, real good audio too

Yeahhhh... I'm thinking I could really piss the neighbors off with a screening of Transformers. Turn the two def-tech's up to "eleven," and listen to the angry voicemail messages later. :D
dwightp 10-30-08, 07:48 PM We just watched Iron Man again the other night and I always forget how much low-frequency content is on the soundtrack. If you have a good subwoofer or two, it will really showcase them.
Plus, I really like the movie.
queendvd2 10-30-08, 10:01 PM There has been much discussion about what our 'inaugural' showing will be as our HT is still under construction. I've already collected about 20 BDs already. Ideally, I'd prefer if it were something we haven't already seen (making the The Dark Knight a very strong contender and Iron Man less so since we saw it in the theaters). HT likely won't be finished until just before Christmas so if anyone wants to throw out suggestions I'm game.

Yes Journey to the center of the earth comes with 4 blue and red 3D glasses. I have seen many good Blu-ray movies in my theater and this one was very unique because of the combination of 1080p and 3D. It really sets itself apart from the rest. I cant say enough about how impressed I was with it.
reidtheweed01 10-31-08, 01:07 AM There Will Be Blood, or Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
