View Full Version : Space Station Arcade and Star Trek Theatre...USS Tomahawk
cinortcele 10-29-08, 11:21 PM First I want to say thanks to those that contribute. Lots of great ideas and inspiration to be found here. I have been working on my build for several years. It morphed into something that is out of control but now that the sheet rock is up and finished I can slowly start to get my ideas going. The project is taking what used to be about 600 sq feet of space and adding roughly 3200 to it. Unfortunately it wont be all theatre and game room but the theatre will be somewhat unique. So will the Arcade.
The story line is that you are on a space station in which a such and such class Federation(Star Trek) fighter is docked. The theatre will be the bridge and the pool table room will be the captain's ready room.

Head through a portal and you are on the space station where the Arcade will be.

Look up and you will see damage to the ceiling. I added a tray(pan) ceiling for a 3d effect. My son came up with having an AT-AT(Star Wars) head crashing through. The explanation being that a Star Destroyer was destroyed by the USS Tomahawk - NCC2020A (theatres name).

Now, as part of the damage destroyed electrical lines revealing that the arcade and presumablly everything else is all just part of a holodeck program.
OK so thanks for letting me geek out. Wifes knocked out from a root canal and my Mom is over taking care of the kids. Yikes!!!
I will post updates hopefully so people can get ideas or share theirs with me to make my project go better/smoother.
Most of the extra sq footage is going to two bedrooms 3.5 baths, a swimming pool room and a huge garage for fabrication of everything fun.:D

Not sure how far I will take the motif but probably too far.
mn_hokie 10-30-08, 12:37 AM Draw up a pre-nup that secures you in the wife's financials. Take it to the bank and put it in a lockbox. You'll need to be able to access this when she asks for the divorce :)
Love the ideas. Good luck with taking it as far as you can.
cinortcele 10-30-08, 07:13 PM Fortunately my wife has her own projects for me so she gets something out of it too!
Thought I would post some updated pics to show where the slate is today.
A couple of where the portal will be and more of the arcade.

Here is one of the bridge's door to the theatre. Planning on having this pneumatically opened and spring loaded to shut.
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=123217&stc=1&d=1225407879
And finally the bridge. Somewhat small area for the theatre but it should do?

I should be starting on putting trim up and start constructing the portal soon.
BIGmouthinDC 10-30-08, 10:45 PM Now this something I wanna see through to completion.

Johnsteph10 10-30-08, 11:42 PM Wow, now this is a build.
cinortcele 01-12-09, 12:38 PM Thiings are slow and cold but a lot of work has gone on. All doors and trim and cabinets have been built in the bathrooms, garage and workshop. Deck is going to get started on this week. Will add pictures when I take some. I drew this up last night as a sample of some of the detail in the game room.
Cheers

cinortcele 03-07-09, 11:42 PM Haven't had too much time to work on the arcade . Been away for experimental treatments. Posting a couple of pics of what has managed to get done with help from my wonderful wife. Went ahead and stained the concrete downstairs.Came out good. Needs polishing. Have gotten all the toilets and stuff. Just need the sinks and the flooring guys to spend a few days out here. Got a fully working BarbWire Pinball that I am selling cheap if anyone is interested. Totally work and clean and has new rubber.

Still have fine trim and lots of decoration but it is a start.
jdholmes 04-16-09, 11:01 AM I was into this as soon as you said Star Trek. But you are painting rooms already? That scares me, cause I don't see much of the theme coming together.
What do you do for a living? I think it may have been what I was supposed to get into. lol :)
cinortcele 04-16-09, 11:12 AM I'm shooting from the hip. Have no idea what the outcome will be as far as colors but expect mixes of Star Trek, Star Wars and game room. Think Space station/ Holodeck malfunction. The theatre...last phase will be the most heavily influenced Star Trek feature. The black walls will be covered by Arcade games so the ceiling will be where the focus is and I expect something unique.
Anthony A. 04-16-09, 11:34 AM may 8 is your deadline for completion. need i remind you that the movie will probably give you some nice ideas!!!
swifty7 04-16-09, 11:40 AM @cino
man!!! I can't believe you have an amytivlle horror style house with those creepy windows. Maybe you should turn the red room into a personal theater. :D
just try to ignore the demonic pig with glowing red eyes.
cinortcele 04-16-09, 12:17 PM no demons!!!!
it does look cool at night dimly lit.
Looking forward to more - keep the theme and photos coming
cinortcele 04-17-09, 12:54 AM Thanks for the encouragement. If I could get the painting done. Whew what a relief that would be. I'm hoping to make progress this weekend on the portal so people see what I mean and I can dump those bad brain cells! :)
nebrunner 04-17-09, 03:26 PM Oh yes, this thread is being subscribed to.
Weasel9992 04-17-09, 05:06 PM I subscribed the moment I saw the Tron arcade games. Yes sir...spent my brother's quarter collection playing one of those. He was mad.
Frank
cinortcele 04-17-09, 05:45 PM Tron. at least one, will be a center piece. Classic
cinortcele 04-21-09, 10:11 PM A few of the lower framing going into the arcade. This will eventually be like a portal or give impression of a air lock.

Good luck and keep us updated.
Weasel9992 04-22-09, 09:45 AM I'm starting to wish that I was 12 and related to you.
Frank
cinortcele 04-23-09, 09:21 PM Im wishing the same.
It will definitely be over the top but there has to be a stop I guess. I'm trying to find someone to airbrush the guest toilet with carbon scoring and vents like the falcon.
accts4mjs 04-24-09, 02:09 AM It's been a long time since I've subscribed to a new build. Done.
This will be fun to watch :) Great ideas. Good luck!

Thanks for the show of support it keeps me enthusiated. When it is done I want to let small youth groups come over and enjoy it and let others use the shop downstairs to build things. Perhaps even have small groups geared toward reaching different needs and interests but with a message of hope and faith to start it all out. I know I am here to do something like this and I know a lot of us are searching.
God Bless all of you watching and I will take any ideas you have. It is amazing how much time it takes just to keep stuff cleaned up.

People say this is cool in person. It is the line going upstairs where the pristine meets battle damage.
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=142834&stc=1&d=1242443479
Another through the still unbuilt portal into the Arcade. Colors look startling but once the trim is painted and portal is built it should be good.

Thank you all for your comments. We plan on dedicating this to all the blessings God has given us and hopefully spread some joy to the kid's, big and small.
God bless.
Looks cool. I'm interested in seeing how this one turns out. :)
minyime 05-21-09, 09:15 PM Nice...
Any idea on the HT layout, equipment selection, screen size and choice... yet?
greighn 12-11-09, 08:12 PM Any progress on this theater? It looked to be a cool build.

Stuff like that really makes you wonder? I hope nothing major has happened to him and hope all is well. Never know about people you meet online. One day here the next day they could be gone and we would never know what happened.
