Hi,
I just completed my first home theater. Everything is great, but my 1.4 gain screen is so bright it makes my light colored sidwalls light up like a xmas tree on bright shots.
I was thinking wether to paint them a dark color{ suggestions please?!!} or to use velvet like my front curtains as i have a lot left over. Would this make the room sound dead for music if i did this?
Yes. Your (white?) walls need to be toned down. I'd paint them something darker.

A dark gray, maybe even darker then this:

Theater 101 should have told you that light colored surfaces anywhere near the screen (including the ceiling) will be a problem.
I like your screenwall... nice job. Just pick a darker color for the walls that you like ... make sure it something like a satin finish.

I got the front wall covered but thought the sidewalls wouldn't be an issue....Wrong! I am torn between putting the curtain all the way around the room or going dark grey? Anybody do curtains all the way around? Would that be overkill?

Why not just paint the walls... seems a lot easier than curtains. You next issue will be the panels (?) on the walls as they are light... and then the carpet !

Thanks guys,
Bigmouth, that's pretty cool. I will paint it and post pics after i'm done. The carpet has to stay as it it wool and very expensive. It is not that bad anyway. I'm lovin my first theater. Gonna watch Rescue Dawn later tonight.
