Are there any audio calibrations disks that can be used to set speaker levels including subwoofer for pcm audio output? I have a HD DVD player that outputs PCM audio to a Pioneer elite 74 receiver, this receiver had to have a firmware update to allow sw the +10 db required for audio thru pcm.

I have always felt that after the update the bass was still a few dbs low. I would like to be able to accurately set subwoofer level for this. Is there any way to verify the receiver is sending out the correct level for sub thru pcm?

Also are there any calibration disks for 7.1?

Thanks,
Barry

Nothing you can do will come anywhere close to matching the onboard Advanced MCACC calibration system. Why are you not using that?

The Studio Canal HDDVD discs have a 5.1 setup screen. Pretty sure the audio is in PCM format/not compressed dd/dts.

I have done MCACC. I just want to be able to verify accurate correction of +10 db of .1 channel that was corrected by firmware update. I can tell the update increased .1 channel, but it still seems a little weak. I was hoping there was a audio calibration disk such as AVIA that has test tones to verify .1 channel thru PCM.

Can you give me the titles of a few? Where to purchase?

Had the '74 and did the firmware upgrade, it did work but not what I was expecting. Got rid of it and went with the '94. My answer is "new reciever", now everything plays!

What did not play with the 74? What difference did you find with the 94? You said the firmware upgrade worked, did you still feel sub output to be a little weak over PCM?

Barry

Firmware upgrade in the '74 allowed a better handshake with HDMI when playing HDDVD but the player had to do the decoding. The '94 is built to do the decoding.
