The room I am moving into has a shutter covered 94" x 45" window. I wanted to cover the space without destroying anything with something that was easily reversible. I used some 2" sound panels I had. First I stuffed the well behind the shutters with 4" mineral fiber insulation for outside sound control and used 1" on top to control vibration.

Are you planning to put your speakers up high so that your panels will be at the first reflection points?

My concern was closing off the window with the panels I had. I will be using towers for my front mains. The tweeter is 46" from the ground. The bottom edge of the sound panels is 40". Would you suggest elevating the speakers and by how much?

Thanks,
John

You might experiment. They already sound somewhat high but from a seated position I suspect your panels will not be in the first reflection path, rather just above.

How high will your screen be? is the 46 inches near the mid point of the screen? If not you might put it on something to see if there is any change in the apparent sound field.

Where is your center channel going?

I agree that the panels aren't ideally placed, but they certainly won't *hurt* the room either, especially if high mid/high end decay time is a problem. Also serves to block the light pretty effectively. Nice, neat job too.

I have not decided on a screen size yet. I believe the bottom edge will be around 27". My center will be going on a stand below the screen.
