Hi,
i am not sure if this is the right forurm to post this.
i have a 5.1 HT system and a plasma tv. I am looking for a professional install service that will install the tv on top of my fireplace, and hide all wires behind the wall for both TV and speakers.
Does anyone have a recommendation? I live in San Jose Bayarea
thanks alot.

Did you notice the customer installer database, which is a sticky at the top of the forum?

you could try the circuit city/best buy in house services
you could probably do it yourself really. take some time and check out other peoples setups to get an idea of how it can be done. You will save yourself a ton of coin, and its pretty fun.
nice to be able to sit back and know you did it all yourself as well.
Remember to check you sight lines first. I see a lot of photo's that show plasma's above a fireplace but the seating is so close that you would have to be looking up at a steep angle to see the TV.
Just make sure it works for you with your seating arrangement before you go through the hassle of the install. Best of luck.

the fireplace mantle is 4 foot tall, i sit 12-13 feet away from the TV. do you think it'd be too high to put the tv there?
thanks

:)Yes it is too high. If you look at some of the programs on HGTV,you see alot of plasmas mounted like your describing.Just one reporters opinion...If you can find a spot to mount it where the viewers can watch the screen without looking up...mo better!JB

I respectfully disagree. I've had my plasma above my fireplace for the past 4 years, and nobody in my family has ever complained about the height. The bottom of the screen is somewhere between 4 and 5 feet high (I can't remember at the moment). I sit 11 feet back from the (50") screen. The key is that when you sit on my couch, you kind of sink back into it, so you're kind of in a natural recline to begin with, with your head tilted upward. If I had a more rigid-backed couch or chair, I could see where you would have to work a bit to look up at the screen. It really is a natural eyeline to the screen in my current setup, however. I would suggest taping off the planned area of the TV, sitting on your couch/chair for a while as you normally would, then determine if it feels natural. There is no one right answer for everyone.
