Well my 34" XBR2 went poof today. I bought the set in Jan of 02 and had many hours on it. Guess it's off to the dump, dont think it's worth trying to fix.

Now i have to use my stand by 38" Loewe Aconda.

Poof= dead gone. While i was at work the TV stopped working. When you power it on u can hear the gas as it does on normal power up, but no pic or sound. Ant A went out about a year ago so i knew death was not far away. It's has thousands of hours on it and was well worth the 4k i spent on it in 2002.

It's gas powered? Sweet! Could be injectors, try running a bottle of Techron through it.

Seriously check out the "Sony won't power up" thread. Plenty of people have experienced and fixed you problem, although it does require some electronics soldering skill.

Maybe it's the flyback transformer. Unfortunately, that's what killed my Philips 27" IDTV (progressive scan from 1990!) I did a world-wide search for a new flyback and never found one. I searched the US, Holland, etc. Sent mail, e-mail, went through a maze of support on phone. Nothing. The flyback was a custom made part for this set. Apparently, that part was prone to failure.

Maybe put it on Craigslist, someone might want a project. Service manual available here:
http://www.servicemanuals.net/ServiceManual/SONY/KD34XBR2/pos1/results.asp
It may be similar to the "DA-4 Chassis" Sonys that have the blink codes.
