The 2.7 Upgrade totally SUCKS!!! And I'm totally pissed!!!!

I've been a happy 2 zone Sonos user for the past year. And I have been using it to stream music files from my PC as well as play Sirius. It's been working perfectly until yesterday... Note, I live in Canada, but have a Sirius US account since when Howard Stern first went to Sirius he wasn't available on Sirius Canada and I never changed it.

This morning, I upgraded my Sonos to the new 2.7 version and now my Sirius doesn't play. I figured my Sirius account information was deleted with the upgrade. So I go in to the Desktop Manager to re-setup my account and I notice the Sirius Music Service isn't available. Which is kind of strange.

So I go to the Sonos support and post a thread regarding how to get the Sirius music service on the desktop manager.

And I get the following answer from Sonos Support:

"My apologies. 2.7 now pays attention to the location you are registered to, and Canada (even though you have a US based account) hasn't been authorized by Sirius for streaming to Sonos, and therefore you are no longer able to use it.

Sirius is the only one that can work towards changing this."

TOTAL BS!!! As I never registered my Sonos units and the main reason I purchased a Sonos system is because of the ease to stream Sirius around the house.

Regardless, I've uninstalled the 2.7 desktop manager and re-installed the 2.6 desktop manager. But now because my zoneplayers are a higher version, its forcing me to upgrade.

Does anyone know how to reset my zoneplayers back to factory defaults? Or does anyone else have any suggestions???

As I like the Sonos units, but if I can't get around the Sirius issues, I'm going to sell it and get a Duet system...

Thanks

Congratulations. You broke the terms of use with Sirius and it's Sonos' fault your system doesn't work?

Seriously man... How is this an issue with Sonos?

Your argument is equivalent to doing 120MPH (sorry - I forgot you use the metric system so that's 193KMH for you) down the highway and then being pissed at the police officer for giving you a speeding ticket.

I'm not trying to break any terms of service. My point was prior to the upgrade all was working perfectly and after the upgrade its not. And it's because of a BS item.

Regardless, after a few hours of uninstalling, resetting and reinstalling. I was able to get everything working again.

IM me if you want detailed instructions on how to resolve the issue. As I can't be the only one that's going to encounter this issue.

A Duet would work. We're not IP restricting accounts.

The free trials are restricted tho.

Thanks for the update Enchilada.

But now that I got it working now, I'm actually quite happy with the Sonos unit now and the new features they added in the 2.7 upgrade. Last.fm is awesome and the Radio feature is cool too.

Plus with all the reinstalling, I actually got a new 30 day trial of Napster. So it appears the hours of re-working was actually worth it in end.

I wish I could change the title of the thread now. Haha...

Neither are Sonos

Actually with the 2.7 Sonos upgrade, Sonos does have IP restrictions. Trust me I know.. as I live in Canada and lost a few features with the upgrade.

Trust me, you're wrong.

You may have limitations - because you live in Canada and some music services aren't, and never were, officially available there but this has nothing to do with your IP address. The fact that you now have it working proves that.

You're still breaching the terms of service, as you would be if you purchased a Duet to use those services in Canada too.

Not trying to make this another pissing thread. But prior to Sonos 2.6, I had no issues and everything worked. I upgraded to 2.7 and lost features... And its because I live in Canada. Call it what you want, but I lost features because I live in Canada.

Yet another reason NEVER to upgrade firmware or software updates for ANYTHING unless you are experiencing an issue that the updated version officially fixes.

This update from Sonos was HUGE so you'd be crazy not to update to it. They added some seriously good features.

So shouldn't this be the offical I hate Canada thread then ;)

Just trying to lighten things up a bit here :p

If you define working perfectly as violating a copywrite then I guess you are right.

I'm not trying to break any terms of service. My point was prior to the upgrade all was working perfectly and after the upgrade its not. And it's because of a BS item.

Mike

so you are saying SB advocates breaking terms of service?

GGKoul is in Canada,
Sirius for whatever reason, doesn't want their thing streamed into Canada...
so any method you use to stream Sirius into Canada is illegal, immoral, and just wrong... but SB is officially OK with that?

of course I do think artificial limits on streaming/data/whatever are wrong/immoral/etc... but still... I am nobody, SB is a real company, did you run this past your corp legal team???
