View Full Version : Combined Audio and Video Distribution?
ojanguren 10-31-08, 09:11 AM I've been reading the forum posts, and have not been able to find a system that matches my requirements. Originally i was looking at a combination of the AA AVX-562 and Russound CAA66, but now i am not sure if it will do waht i want it to do. Perhaps someone can steer me in the right direction.
I have 5 zones where i want to have Video. in the same 5 zones, i also want in ceiling speakers. i want the speakers in these rooms to be able to playback the sound from the TV or another source (i.e. music for a party) or just to have the TV play the audio through the built in speakers.
The way i understand it, is that the AVX-562 distributes both the audio and video to the wall plates, so how do i get the audio to the ceiling speakers? i assume i could connect the audio out from the AVX to the CAA66, but then i would loose the audio at the TV. Also, if i have 4 different video sources, that would use 4 of the 6 input channels on the CAA66, leaving me no room for plain audio devices.
So, are there any combined solutions out there? The walls are completely open right now, so i can run whatever cables i need. Right now, i had wired everything for the AVX-562 and CAA66 systems, but i am not afraid to run even more wire. Can anyone make a suggestion?
robertmee 10-31-08, 09:46 AM For audio it is simple. From your sources, use a Y-splitter RCA adapter for each channel (Left and Right) and take the audio to both the AA unit and the russound. Done all the time.
ojanguren 10-31-08, 09:51 AM i like it, simple...
So i take it that no one makes one combined system? The reason i ask is because i don't want to limit the number of audio sources, right now i have 4 and if i do the Y splitter, then i will only have room for 2 of my 4 audio sources... perhaps i need the next step up in the audio distribution...
robertmee 10-31-08, 10:11 AM Or compromise and not take all of your Video Sources through the Russound.
Out of curiousity, what are all your video and audio sources?

fletch999 10-31-08, 11:12 AM Elan System 12 has 12 inputs for sources and 8 zone outputs. You can use the built in 16x16 video matrix as a 5 input/5 output component video matrix switch. Done.

You could do this:
Russound 1-4 sources get your Audio
AA 1-4 sources get your video
You are only using 5 of the 7 outputs on the AA, so take output 6 and route it to input 5 on the Russound.
You can assign any input on the AA to output 6 and send that to any zone through the Russound. The caveat is that you could not listen to multiple sources from the AA through the Russound. Only one at a time. BUT, you have an additional output on the AA and an additional Input on the Russound. So also take output 7 on the AA to input 6 of the Russound. Now, you can play upto two different sources on the AA through the Russound. That would work fine for say SAT1 and SAT2 or any SAT and BR. What are the chances you'll have SAT1 AND SAT2 AND BR needed at the same time in the ceiling speakers?
ojanguren 11-03-08, 10:08 AM Thanks Robert, you are probably right, the chances are pretty slim that i will need all at the same time. Do you think this is a good solution or are there better components out there?
Fletch, I am very impressed with the S12, but it is very hard to get any information on it. it looks like a system that is not DIY friendly as i cant even find pricing for it. Do you have more info on the S12?

If you go the Audio Authority route, take a look at the Model 1172 (http://www.audioauthority.com/product_details/1172/AVAtrix/5/2) audio break out point. You would then go from the 1172 to the CAA66. Iam pretty sure your situation is the reason they created the 1172.
