Hi, as first I would like to introduce myself. My name is Roman and i am from Germany. Almost two years ago, i started to build my own home cinema in the basement of our house in which we live for rent. I call it "movieZone" ! ;-)
Already during planning i tried to cosider also acoustical treatments and i think it became very good. However i am absolutely satisfied. I think this is the most important at the thing :)

Here some pictures:

Welcome to the forum. You have a great looking theater, nice job.
What are the dimensions of your room?

My movieZone is a very small home theater. It measures just 19 squaremeters (almost 15.4 x 14.1 foot).
It has eight cinema-seats, a Full HD-Projector (Epson EMP TW-1000) and a 110 inch 21:9-Screen.

After a detailet planing i startet to build a drywall at the backside of my cinema. That was necessary, because the new wound is on the one hand an important acoustic item and on the other hand a noise protection for sensitive neighbours :).

First the carrier beams were equipped with impact sound insulation to minimize sound transmissions over ceiling and ground.
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Drywall5.jpg

Next i`ve built a wooden frame, which is fastened to the ceiling and ground only. That is extremely important to prevented sound transmissions over the external wall.
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Drywall1.jpg

Subsequently, I laid all necessary cables
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Drywall2.jpg

Next step was the damming. Here I used fibre glass. I recommend everyone to wear a protection suit for this work. ;)
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Drywall.jpg

Before locking the drywall with gypsum layers, i build some solid wallmounts for my heavy Klipsch-Surroundspeakers
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Drywall3.jpg

Now the wall is locked...

Now i started to built the seat landing, because two seat rows were planned.

Also here I paid attention embarrassingly exactly to the uncoupling to the ground, which I likewise achieved by impact sound insulation.

http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Landing1.jpg

The whole Cunstruction is also dammed with rockwool damming. Additionally I paid attention here to an extremely close bracing of the construction.
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Landing4.jpg

http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Landing5.jpg

Because the front seat row should be let in into the landing, i had to built an rounded off end.

Nice job on your theater! Looks like you paid close attention to detail and made great use of a small space. I bet the Klipsch speakers rock the room! :)

Darth-Roman
11-04-08, 02:06 AM
Yes they do. Because of the small room size i am using just small Reference-Speaker Modells. But this is enought by far. You gonna get pushed into your seat.

Now it was the time to paint the room black :).
The darker the room became the more oppressed we felt :(.

Subsequently, it went to build the lateral drying-wound which includes also a large software-shelf.

...and you guys thought the Germans could only build extremely well handling autos....

Roman, the quality here looks top notch, thank you for sharing...can't wait to see more!

Oh, nice plaques!

Nice work, but did you say you are renting this house? That's a lot of work for a rental.

Darth-Roman
11-04-08, 11:44 AM
In Germany it is usual to live for rent. This is a 6-Family-House. My parents in law bought this 125 squaremeters (1.345 square foot) flat. We only have to pay a small rent for it. I am really shure that we will live there for a long time. :) Thats why i did it !!!

After the drywall was closed, the first technical device could be finally installed

http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/RTI_3.jpg

Here i am using a complete RTI-System which cwhich takes over
both the light control (Lutron Grafic Eye) and the controlling of
all AV-devices.

Now it came the time to build the front construction, which should includes all front loudspeakers and the two Velodyne Subwoofers.

First step: Make a sketch. It sound unbelivable, but this was the only sketch i`ve made during the hole construction-time...
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Front1.jpg

I started with the framing on the Wall...
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Front2.jpg

Intentionally i`ve left a small opening in the left corner. Maybe i can make use of it in the future, because i plan to install an electric curtain.
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Front3.jpg

The whole construction i also fixed on the ground. Here i also used impact sound insulation to decouple the construction.
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Front4.jpg

The whole construction is splitted into five separate sections... (here you`ll see just one of them)
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Front5.jpg

In the meantime i decided to fix the screen an the wall. The screen hangs only on two wafers.
They allow an fast and easy difference in height without having to bore new holes (you see,
the hole isn`t in the centre of the wafer. That makes it easy to screw it, which makes different
heights and so the perfect adjustment permits).

I`m back in town

Now the screen was on his final position. That brought me to continue to work on my front construction.
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Front9.jpg

I noted also here careful attention to a maximum encoupling to minimize resonances.
I also used impact sound insulation (green material).
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Front10.jpg

I decided as much reservoir to use as possible.
For that i`ve build three small chambers.
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Front11.jpg

http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Front12.jpg

http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Front13.jpg

Subsequently, it went to the lining of the front.
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Front14.jpg

The timber elements cut out before were equipped with hinges to
serve now as small doors.
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Front15.jpg

http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Front18.jpg

http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Front19.jpg

As i have told you, the whole frontconstruction is seperated into
five sections. Section 2 and 4 are each used as chamber for my
Velodye-Subwoofers. Of course these are dammed with Rockwool
damming material to reach a perfect insulation.

Very nice work Darth-Roman,

I have to agree with others about the attention to detail, good work. I love the front cabinet design.

Hey, if your in-laws own the rental I would tell the sensitive neighbors to stick it  if they had a problem, that is of course assuming the sensitive neighbors are not your in-laws. :p

Keep the pics coming.

Thank you, oman.

I would tell the sensitive neighbors to stick it if they had a problem
This is a great forum, so i`ve got an english-lesson for free. Thank you! :)

Keep the pics coming.
Yes i will. That`s for shure !!! ;)

Hi Roman!

Your home theater is very, very nice and you have done a great job!
I have read a reporting about your construction in a home theater magazine. ;)
I am anxious to see more pictures from and more details about your construction here in your thread.

Let your show continue... ;)

The story continues...

Now i started to partly rebuild teh ceiling. I just wanted to modify the section above the landing. So i started to build a wooden frame. Subsequently i`ve prepared some wooden beams with holdings. This was a very important step because these holdings are to hold the light hose, which will be installed later.
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Ceiling1.jpg

After all beams where installed i laid all necessary cables (light, HDMI, YUV).
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Ceiling2.jpg

Subsequently we`ve installed the red light hose. In my opinion a very important accessory ... and not expensive.

Roman
Great looking HT.
One of the best parts about building your own HT is that you get to use your imagination and creativity. One person would see what you can not do because of the type of space. You clearly see what can be done and how to turn a negative into a positive. Fantastic job on making your space into a great HT.

I`ve been a long time away. But now i am back with some more details about my home theatre contruction.

Ceiling: Part 2

The wooden frame is finished, the light hose is installed. Time to lock the
construction with gypsum layers.
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Ceiling4.jpg

To protect the Projektor from resonances i decided to use impact sound isolation
between the wooden frame and the wooden Projector-Base.
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Ceiling5.jpg

Time for power: My brother in law helped me to install the current supply
http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Ceiling8.jpg

http://freenet-homepage.de/moviezone/movieZone/AVS_Forum/Ceiling9.jpg

Paint in Black: No - no painting. I decided to use self adhesive black D-C-Fix.
It is easily to use (you just need a little brush), not heavy and looks great (velour surface)
