hello all,
need help from the pro's...again. i have a russound CAA66 that i got set up with paul's help and all was great until a week ago. i left the house with the system on and when i returned all the keypads and receiver were still on and lit up but no sound.
i checked different sources and the obvious things, i unplugged it several different times, removed all the wires and tried isolating zones and keypads alone, and basically anything i can do. i realize that i am over my head with this but don't know anyone local to use and would like to fix it myself if possible. i did have a local guy come over and he basically tried to sell me a new system without really seeing if it could be fixed.
if i have to buy a new one that's ok and i will upgrade to the CAV but i am wondering if anyone knows if this thing is fried from what i am explaining. that everything lights up...each time a keypad is powered it comes on normally and the main unit lights that represent a powered keypad also light up. eveything seems normal in that respect but no sound. when i would power up the main unit you could hear it turn on thru the speakers before but now nothing.
i could understand if i had a problem right after setting it up but it has been working great for about 6 weeks now and suddenly nothing. nothing had been touched or messed with either.
just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem. thanks in advance...you guys are great!! :)
regards,
Dave

Sounds like something failed, perhaps something in the power supply to the amps. You might check inside to see if there are any fuses.

Unless you can get a schematic for the unit, you may have to return it to Russound for repair.

hello,
thanks for the quick answer. i was afraid of it being a serious issue, so, i found a local russound dealer that says he can figure out what is wrong. he is coming monday morning to troubleshoot the system. just bums me out...that is the best thing we have done in our house for years. my wife and i both love the convienence of it but if i need a new one i am going to upgrade to at least the CAV system. i really am going to have to rethink the whole thing and maybe even go with a different brand.
can you tell me tho...do these need ALOT of ventelation? i have it in an a/v closet but on the top shelve where there is an a/c vent blowing on it basically. anyway, thanks for the help.
regards,
Dave

I agree with Carl... if everything has been working for some time and now you don't get sound in any zone, I'd also expect a problem in the controller.

There are two 8A fast blow fuses on the power supply board as well as the external main fuse by the power connection (this one is OK, because you do get power).

These systems do need some ventilation. Good rule of thumb is that if it feels warm when you put your hand on the top it's ok... if it feels hot, you're not getting enough ventilation. I know that's very subjective, but if it feels hot enough that you feel concerned about it, you probably should be:)

If you didn't purchase through an authorized dealer I think Russound will still do the repair for a fee. I expect this would still cost far less than replacing the entire system.

Might be worth pulling the lid to check those fuses. If you find one is blown, don't get you hopes up too much for an easy fix. Fuses usually blow for a good reason and it's likely the replacement fuse will blow too?

Let us know what your dealer finds...

hey paul,
thanks for the info. i am going to look inside and check out the fuses since i have nothing to lose here with respect to the warrantee.
altho they were very nice guys and didn't charge me much the russound dealer people didn't seem to know that much. they were electricians that also do home audio systems as a russound dealer but could only tell me that it didn't work. well, i knew that already and didn't get a good answer from them. they also were supposed to give me pricing on a new one and info on where to get mine repaired and never heard back from them.
so, since i have no warrantee i am gonna see what i can find and contact russound to find out repair costs.
thanks again and i will let you know what happens.
regards,
Dave
