It works fine and all, but when the house A/C turns on, it immediatlely turns off and blinks 3 lights. Is this a surge problem? It also does it when I am running my computer and monitor in the same room. Can anyone suggest any solutions?

Have an electrician check your power. You may have a problem on that circuit or elsewhere.

Hello. It could be a circuit problem.. Should probably have them check it out. I see you live in Atlanta too. You know any good cheap electricians?

Yeah definitely have this checked out as it sounds serious. The 240V AC line should not affect a 120 line so either your service (box) is inadequate or the house wiring or both. This can be dangerous.
Older home with a 60Amp service?

Fortunately I have not needed to use an electrician. I have heard a lot of commercials for Mister Sparky and if I needed one I would give them a try. They seem to service the whole metro area.
I know an electrician, though I don't know that he's cheap. He's the husband of someone I work with. I've used him before for some work on my rental property, and I'd use him again. Let me know if you are interested, I have his number at work.

The 240v line is just the sum of the two 120v legs you have coming in to your house (or probably more accurately, you have two 120v lines available that are each half of the 240v line that comes in to your house). So what happens on one can affect the other. But if everything is OK and you have sufficient capacity, you shouldn't experience this. Either you are having some significant voltage dips when heavy loads come on, or something in the TV is overly sensitive to momentary line sags, or maybe something else very screwy. Do you have a multimeter? It may be helpful to monitor your voltage at the outlet when things turn on.

True, you can think of a 240V circuit as -120V to the white neutral wires (0 volts) plus neutral to +120V for a span of -120 to +120 or 240 volts. A 240V circuit can be thought of as two 120V circuits that happen to be out of phase. Over simplified but basically how it lays out in the circuit breaker box.
Anyway, the AC, oven, dryer or any 240V device shouldn't cause "brownouts" on any 120V circuit so it's likely service to the home or house wiring is inadequate

Sorry for the long reply. I unexpectedly had to go out of town. Thank you all for your responses. I have a 42" plasma as a computer screen and a desktop pc in the same room as the dlp. If everything is turned on at once, the dlp will blink 3 lights in about 2 minutes. But when I turn everything off and leave the dlp on, it wont turn off. I'm guessing the power supply box has been opened because one of the screws is only halfway in. However, one of the power outlets in the room has it's faceplate taken off and the house alarm battery is attached.
Thank you Darin. Sent you a PM
