I recently was gifted a PS3, and I hooked it up to my samsung HLR-5067w DLP TV. I have been having some problems initially turning the PS3 on:

1) Turn on the PS3 (quick press of the power button)
2) Green light is on for about 15 seconds
3) Beeps 3 times, and I get the red blinking light
4) Turn off the PS3 (quick press of the power button)
5) Turn on the PS3 (quick press of the power button)
6) PS3 works as expected.

Any idea if this is a PS3 issue, or an HDMI handshake issue? Will eventually try hooking the PS3 up via the included cable, but obviously not the ideal situation.

Is there a sequence of events that needs to happen in order to make sure that the HDMI handshake works? Should I have the TV on before turning the PS3 on?

Thanks in advance.

I think I am going to call in for a replacement from Sony... Can't seem to figure out the problem, and it only happens occasionally.

You will very posssibly have more success if you use the VGA interface, if the PS3 has one, instead of the HDMI interface. See the PC chapter of your TV user's manual for details.
