Hello,

I am new to these forums:confused: , so I apologize if I have a lack of knowledge on these subjects. My problem is that I have a Samsung BD-P1500 that outputs Dolby Digital, and I have that optically connected to a Pansonic SA-HT40. When I input "PCM" mode to my receiver via the options, I hear only two channels, yet it is set to digital; the "DTS" or "Dolby Digital" light isn't being lit up, but the "digital" is. There are three options on my Blu-Ray player- PCM, Bitstream Re-Encode and Audiophile, and there is the option on my AVR to "force" DTS. What should I do? My HDTV will only let me play 2 channels if I route the audio connection through there, so that's not an option. Anyone's help is much appreciated.:)

Try one of the bitstream options? ;)

We'llter a little experimentation, I set it to use an encoded bitsream, (not PCM or audiophile mode), and I popped in a simpsons DVD. It picked up the Dolby Digital SOundtrack, and I moved my subwoofer out of the corner to make it reproduce the sound more naturally. It appears that it is the Blu-Ray Player's fault that I am not getting the sort of audio I want, as the Blu-Ray movies don't seem to be backwards-compatible. Can anyone help me with this problem?

What exactly is your problem now?
Is it levels?
Sub placement?
What audio do you want?
What exactly is not "backwards compatible"?
Do you have the manuals for the DVD player and receiver?

Can you clarify?
Sometimes experimentation is necessary in the learning process. Panic doesn't help. ;)
