I got the set in 2005 and I have been using it extensively, I think the cause of the blue is because I put a unshielded woofer on the bottom it was like two feet and a half from the woofer to the set I didn't think it would damage the screen. Is there a way fix this problem and about how much would it cost? Is the blue haze on my screen permanent? I'm going to talk to a local authorized Hitachi dealer tomorrow so any info or suggestions would be great before I call them.
please help me..I dont want to miss out on hi-def nba on abc and the Darkknight dvd on december 8th!

Speakers (magnetic fields) do not affect dlp/lcd/plasma Tv's. Nothing you did caused your problem. Your particular problem is the light engine/optical block needs to be replaced, and it aint cheap so hope you have a warranty...
My Hitachi 50V500 was purchased in 2004 and is waaaaaaaay out of warranty with the dreaded "pink cloud" but if yours is blue, same difference. Called Hitachi Customer Relations 1.800.448.2244 and they are sending a free replacement light engine to the store that I purchased it from. Money Saving Hint 1: Lug your set to wherever you bought it and get a free analysis of the faulty light engine to save a service call fee and Hitachi will have to contact those folks to verify. Money Saving Hint 2: Your store may even hand you the part for self install if you are up to it but either way be prepared to answer Hitachi's primary question: "If we supply the part at no charge will you take responsibility for the cost of installation?" Answer: "But of course"
Cheers!
BTW, the scortched LCDs are made by Sony; go figure.(at least in my 50V500)
