Hi guys,
Sorry for the basic question, but I couldn't find the answer to my question. I was wondering if I could only use in-ceiling speakers for a tv/game/dvd setup? I'm just looking for a minor upgrade from built-in speakers (which could complement a future upgrade). The layout of the room is not final, which is why I'm considering this.
Thanks.

Of course you can, but it's unlikely to be satisfying. Voices won't be coming from near or on the screen, which will likely be unsatisfying. For music (and probably most gaming), it would be fine.

Ditto what Sokoloff said. You can do anything you want! It's YOUR space!!! Will it be incredible, beautiful, lovely acoustically speaking if you JUST use ceiling speakers? Not in my opinion. I did a build for someone who wanted in-ceiling speakers. There ARE some some directional ceiling speakers that will do better then just "down-firing" speakers, but it just isn't the same as front-side speakers;in fact, not even close.
Good luck on the build!
Best,
Tom

Thanks for the advice! I decided not to go with it at this time, but will run wires to the back of the room until I have more time and better understanding of what I need.
