Hey guys, just easing my way into my home theatre setup. And while I am a noob at this and bought a futureshop package deal, I still want to get it set up properly.

So I picked up a 47" LG70 tv with a yamaha HTR6130 5.1 system for ~1700$ Canadian. The guy threw in a 120hertz rated monster HDMI cable. I also bought a PS3 to get some bluray movies going.

Now I went and bought a second hdmi cable and an optical audio cable so I can get this set up and return the cable I dont use or, if I have to get more cables lol!

Right now I tried doing: PS3 ----(hdmi)---> yamaha HTR6130 DVD input and then output -----(hdmi)-----> TV

When I do this, the video displays just fine on the TV and the sound will come through the TV speakers, but not the sound system
I don't know why it isnt working, and I looked through the manual and couldn't find anything that made sense to me...

I also tried optiocal out from the TV to reciever and that didnt work at all, though the cable had a red light so I figured it was transmitting.

I then tried optical out from ps3 to reciever, but for whatever reason, it is only coming out in mono through the center speaker and I am pretty sure I have the speakers wired properly. Though really it would be simpler if I can just do hdmi instead of the optical out

So I guess I am just lost and really don't want to call some futureshop guy to come over. Please help me out

The HTR6130 is a HDMI passthrough only receiver. Meaning that it will not process audio over HDMI. You need to connect the audio cable (optical) directly from the the PS3 to the receiver. If you are having problems with the audio only coming through the center channel, there is something wrong in your setup. Make sure you set the PS3 audio to Bitstream since you are using optical.
