View Full Version : WD 52525 Mystery problem or capacitor?
traction12 11-02-08, 07:43 PM First, Thank you for the help! "In the beggining" I got horizontal lines in the form of an offset picture, scrolling upward, then I got green junk all over the screen, now I get nothing. When I first had this issue I was getting the red flashing light next to "lamp." I unplugged the tv, and took the back off of it to see what it would do after plugging it in. The green light was blinking, as it always did, showing that it was warming up the tv... then I turned the power on. It looked like it was "booting up" and, in fact, the lamp turned on, stayed on for a few seconds then turned off. During this time there was no flashing red light, or anything else that indicated a problem. It seemed to operate as if there was no problem at all, except that there was no picture. There was one large capacitor on the board that I checked, (not the board behind the inputs, but the board that seemed to have the lamp power cables extending from it)... and I didn't notice any bulging or decay. Should I be looking behind the inputs for bad capacitors or do I have another problem? Once again, thank you for any help that you can offer.
hammerdwn 11-03-08, 12:19 AM After the red light comes on you can get an error code by pressing and holding the menu & device buttons on the front panel. The green light will blink out and repeat a two digit code- like 12, 34, 37
traction12 11-03-08, 08:48 PM Thanks... I'm going to try that and I'll let you know what it tells me.
traction12 11-04-08, 05:28 PM The green light is flashing continually under "lamp." I'm assuming that this means the tv believes the lamp is bad... however, as I mentioned before, the lamp turns on, stays on for a brief period of time, then turns off again. Would a bad lamp even come on? (Forgive me, but generally, when a lamp goes bad, doesn't it just blow out? Thanks!
hammerdwn 11-04-08, 05:44 PM If the green light flashes rapidly and never stops then you won't even be able to turn the Tv on, so I don't know how you think the lamp is coming on at all. A continual blinking light means several capacitors deep inside the chassis are bad.
traction12 11-04-08, 06:32 PM Ok... well... here's what I'm doing and the tv's responses:
I plug the tv in and let the rapidly flashing green "warm up" light quit blinking.
I hit the power button and it appears the tv is "powering up," if you will.
Shortly thereafter I watch the lamp, through the back of the TV, light up and stay lighted for a short period of time (3 seconds) before it turns off.
I then hold the menu and device buttons at the same time to get an error code.
Under the "lamp" label I get a slow continually blinking green light.
That's it!
I called a lamp supply place that claimed a bulb could be faulty and still "light up" shortly. I still don't know what to think about it. Thanks for the help... hopefully that clarifies what's going on here.

It's gotta be blinking a two digit code. I would guess 3 blinks pause 4 blinks repeat.
The lamp coming on then going off is typical of bad caps on the powersupply (also in the chasis, but easy to get to).
traction12 11-05-08, 01:35 AM The error codes shows under a different indicator light on the front of the tv. The lamp light was the one continually blinking. At one point I unplugged the TV and immediately after plugging it back in, pushed the device & menu button simultaneously. The error code was a 12. (No Error.) And the error code came from a different light than the "lamp" light on the front of the tv... I think it was the status light. Of course, it gave me the "no error" code because I had just plugged it back in. After letting it fail, and leaving the tv plugged in, then going through the same process it gave the continually blinking light under the lamp light, with no defined longer pauses or breaks to indicate a code... just a continually slow blinking light.
Thanks for hanging in there with me, but I can guarantee you this is the case. :o
hammerdwn 11-05-08, 09:21 AM Make sure the lamp door is closed securely and the side filter door is secured. Also check the lamp connector inside the Tv, that can become ****-eyed so the lamp isn't plugging in all the way.
traction12 11-06-08, 07:00 PM I just got into the board next to the power supply and there are two 3300hf 10w capacitors with the caps bulging and leaking a small bit. This is great news! I can't tell you how excited I am that I might have my tv back. I need to find a place to have them put the new ones on, but that shouldn't be too hard. I'll look around for where I can purchase some new capacitors on the boards here. Thanks a ton Hammer. I'll let you know the outcome. :)
traction12 11-12-08, 11:16 AM Hammerdwn,
You rock. Thank you for the help. With the replacement capacitors my TV is working like new. I'm really excited about this... Really excited. Thanks for helping out and taking time to help a guy who needed it. It is greatly appreciated God Bless! :D
