Hi guys, I am a relative newb on this forum, but not in general. It seems because this forum is large, searching is a bit difficult.

I have been consturcting a home server and I am looking for the best method to get audio/video 100 feet from the PC in Dolby Digital format with the highest resolution possible without going to HD (Probobly typical monitor output).

What cables would be most effective. I was thinking Optical Audio with maybe DVI cables for video? Is there something cheaper for the video side?

Well, if your display device accepts it, a VGA cable would be the least expensive.

Would S-Video be greater resolution or lower resolution then VGA?

VGA is RGB component video so, in general, it is capable of higher resolution than S-Video. S-Video and composite video are limited to the StdDef NTSC format of 480 horizontal lines, but S-Video can have a better horizontal resolution (no. of vertical lines) than composite.
