Hello all,

I have a Samsung HLN507W DLP that's approaching 4 years old. No problems with it to date. However, the color scheme now seems to be off. The majority of the picture is nothing but blue and yellow. It didn't start out all that bad but seems to be getting worse with time (more blue and yellow). Has anyone had anything similar happen? Any ideas of the root cause?

Thank you in advance for any comments/advice.

It's usually the color wheel going bad. Can you hear any noises as the tv starts up in the back, like a color wheel squeeking? But color problems generally are the color wheel. Many posts on this forum about repairing it yourself.

Thanks for the response.

No, I haven't heard any unusual noises on start up. I agree that the color wheel makes sense. I'm just not sure how severe of a problem this could be. Could it be as simple as replacing the color wheel? Or could this be related to a misalignment of the color wheel?

Are color wheel related problems expensive???

If it's the color wheel, go to www.samsungparts.com, put your model number in the left column and a parts list will come up, it's not too expensive. Check this site for info:

Well, I have now replaced the lamp and the color wheel - and the majority of the picture is still blue and yellow. Anyone have any other thoughts as to what might be causing this?

Could the color wheel be out of sinc somehow? Calibration issue? I guess I'm officially at a loss.

Thanks for your thougths.

All inputs?
Is on-screen menu or guide affected?

My wife's parents have a Samsung DLP that has a similar issue. The yellow is near the center but takes up nearly 2/3 of the screen... while there's some blue in each lower corner. (they're getting it fixed next week)

I'm not sure of their model number, but the tech they contacted heard of the issue (as well as samsung) and they need to replace one of the PCBs inside the TV to fix the issue. It's not a bulb or color wheel issue... at least with their set.

EDIT - wanted to add that their issue started about a year ago (their set it is about 3-4yrs old) and evertime we'd visit it would be a little worse as you describe. After talking to them about it last week, I finally got them to use their extended warranty to get it fixed.
