Hello All, long time lurker and finally have a question for the experts. I have searched the forums, but I am unable to find a distinct solution.

I currently have Impact Acoustic 6x2 Component Video Matrix Switch. I have the following components hooked up to the matrix.
PS3
XBOX 360
Oppo 980
HD-A2
SA 8300HD - Cablevision

and it is displaying to 2 HDTV's in the bedroom and family room.
I am using 2 URC Rf-20 remotes with the power blaster to control these components that are in the closet from each room.

I want to add another stb (SA4300HD) to the mix, but i am having difficulties controlling each stb. if I change the channel on 1 box, it changes the other as well.

Is there a way to configure the infrared on the stb so they don't conflict with each other.

Has anyone done this or is there another solution?

Thanks again.

Yogi

I am not familiar with those STBs, but on my TiVos, I am able to assign different remote addresses and the remote has a switch on it so you can control each one with the same remote. So that might be an option.

Otherwise, I think you're going to have to use a hardwired IR extender system with a multi-zone connecting block. Check out the Niles MSU440Z or the Xantech 79-520.

Some boxes will allow different IR remote channels to prevent this issue. Tivo S3 for one. I don't know about your box, however. Might be worth asking.

Outside of that I don't know a non-painful way. Maybe one of the experts?

Some base stations (ie, MRF300) have numbered emitters that you stick onto the front of each box. You setup different "devices" on the remote, and you can select which emitter # you want the command to go to.

Try covering the emitters with blk elec. tape

try covering the emitters with blk. elec. tape so they dont interfere with the other stb's

for one you need a processor that does ir routing that was previously said, the other u can try is IR blockers.... IR is leaking or flooding the whole spot... throw a cover on one u should be all set

fwiw .... I have two identical DirecTV HD boxes. One is controlled by IR the other by RF. That's a selection you can make in the setup.

Not sure if that would help you or not.

You need IR routing, and then something like this over each emitter

i have very similar setup....i put in 2 of these http://www.universalremote.com/product_detail.php?model=40
and the receiver
http://www.universalremote.com/product_detail.php?model=109

this will let you control all devices separately by programming the remotes to certain ir outputs on the mrf-350..... you can 'label' each remote for what room it should be in so you don't get confused
