Hi everyone had been reading on this forum a while but hadn't posted till now.Great site and thank you for your knowledge.:) ok so i currently have an old 2001 65" Mits hd rptv that i am selling and now excited about its replacment. I am torn though and would love some opinions from some owners out there. sooo lookin at either a 65" WD-65835 or 73" WD-73736...i have always wanted a diamond series Mits that thing is like the ultimate of Mits tvs lol but price of course comes into play. soo what should i do my fellow americans?? the larger size is so overwhelming i know how the 65" looks always lusted for the 70" plus though... and i have seen the 73" diamond pic in best buy so i know its def on par with the lcds/plasmas out there. but how about the WD-73736 how does it hold up against the diamond 65"?? owners please share thoughts and pics if possible thank you all!

If you don't plan on getting the set calibrated I would go with the 73736.

and the reason why? i have never had my set calibrated beyond using Avia...i thought it came out pretty good. i was thinkg the Diamond series for that reason i would imagine the premium would produce, after some basic teaking of course, the better picture...but i have always wanted a rediculously large screen like a 73" so i guess what i wanna know is with basic adjustments using a hd calibration disc how good is the picture gonna be?? any replies are always appreciated thanks

From posts in the actual owners thread that is the general consensus. Out of the box or with minimal user calibration you will not notice much, if any, difference when comparing the two pictures. If you were to get it professionally calibrated though, the 835 series will outperform it considerably.

As Vili well knows, I bought the 73835 dirt cheap some time ago and am steadily racking up the hours on the bulb so that I can schedule a calibration.

My previous Sony never got past the DVE setup disc, but from what I've seen with this set, it will require a proper cali in order to bring out its best.

That all being said, the set looks pretty darn good after a few user level tweaks (taking it out of torch mode etc).

From the calibration thread, I have tried a couple of posted settings, but can't really see too much difference. Scratch that, I was watching poker in HD Monday night and thought the screen was a little 2 dark (borg cube's I think). So I think I'm going back to cid's settings.

All in all, these sets require their own settings. "Borrowing" someone else's is probably not the best way.

My input. Go big man, go big :)

Ty for all your replies...leaning towards the 73" for now. i love the size of the 65" of course just the thought of the extra screen though hard to resist i guess! if anyone has more opinions please post hell even pictures of them would be great. also any ideas on pricing of calibration?

The Best Buy calibrator was here to work on my new 73735 today and to say I was less than impressed wiht his work would be an understatement.. He did a gray scale and and the damned thing was still neon blue. He never put a meter on any color bars, just gray scale. He used filters for the color settings.. sheesh. No printout at the end.

I am still futzing with it. Trying to get it tolerable now with what I can do in the user menu. Best Buy may just get this one back. It does look a lot better than it did no doubt. But when you pay to have on calibrated you expect to know what changes they made in the SM etc.

From what I've seen Circuit City charges about 150 and BestBuy about 300. I am/was leaning towards BB, if only I don't like the way the CC website is set up and the massive price difference.

However, having read the post above, maybe I'll stump up the extra 75 and go with a local boutique shop that is listed on the ISF cert website and claims that they can cali the Diamond, even though they don't sell it.

If nothing else, I can always go back to the shop and give them some rage....

This guy claimed to have done lots of Mits sets and particularly a lot of Diamonds. The guy from Best Buy was not a contractor, and he was using the tools BB provided. He seemed very comfortable moving in and out of the SM. I think the biggest problem with caliibration by BB here in Houston is:

1) They are clearly over scheduled, so they want to get in and get out asap.
2) They are trained to do something in a certain way and if that does not work then they have no time to really figure out what is going on --see 1 above.
3) They just don't have a full professionals kit.

Anyway I will fool with the set myself a bit more and come to a decision over the weekend whether to keep it or get a Sammy. Sammy's have much more accurate color out of the box and look great with just getting them out of torch mode, and turning off the goofy DNIe stuff.

I don't see how CC and BB can offer calibration services without properly trained and equipped personnel. That is just as bad as the untrained sales staff their stores have become infamous for. We may as well delete the word "quality" from the English dictionary since no one seems to understand its meaning anymore.
