so far i have a 50 inch panny plasma, a panny blu ray player, a time warner hd dvr, and a denon 1909. this is all going through ascend/epik speakers.

of course i can watch movies, however, my questions concern playing music.

i can turn on the cable box and flip through the music channels and watch those (actually not a bad option). i can listen to the good old radio.

what is needed to listen to xm radio? i have a subscription for the car, can i use that same subscription in the house?

also, i'd like to plug a laptop into the 1909 somehow. then i would be able to stream music from various sources, download and play music with a wireless connection, etc. also, when talking about xm, if i did need a subscription, i could always log onto their site from the laptop and stream from there with my existing subscription.

thoughts? what do i need to do to make this happen? wireless router and what else? what kind of connections are needed to link with the receiver? anything else i can do through such a setup? any other options to consider vs this one?

your XM subscription is valid only for your car radio. Is your XM car radio portable or attached to your car? if it's not portable then you need an additional XM radio for your house. The subscription for your car radio is bound to that radio (there is a serial# that XM coded for). If you want to save then get a portable XM radio.

I have a SIRIUS portable radio that I use in my house (with docking station) and in my truck (with another docking station), both docking have remotes and I only pay for 1 SIRIUS subscription.

When shopping for XM portable, look at Home kit and Car kit for this specific XM portable radio. For XM take a look at Pioneer XMp3, both home and car kit are available. Take a look at Crutchfield.

If you go with a separate home XM radio, then a second (cheaper <$7/mth ) subscription is necessary.

If you want to plug in ur laptop and stream from there you can go buy a headphone jack with 2 RCA head cable to hook it up to ur 1909. i dont know whats it call. is not that hard to find it. go ebay type in headphone jack rca.
