How does an hearing imapired person go about calibrating to get the best sound a HTC set up?

I am moving to a house and will be able to set up a 5.1 (maybe a 7.2) and it never occurred to me that I might not have it done correctly because of my impairment and I dont really know what it really should sound like.

Because it sounds good to me it doesnt mean that it is what it should be, and I want the sound to sound as it was intended.
How can I do that?

Sorry to hear of your impairment but it should not have any impact on setup. If your AVR or pre/pro has an auto setup routine, the system and included microphone will do the job. If not, all (I know of none that lack it) AVRs and pre/pros can generate test tones for level setups. All you need is a tape measure and a Radio Shack sound level meter.

Even those with unimpaired hearing should trust the instruments! (Disclaimer: There are professionals with both instruments and practiced ears who rely on both.)

Based on the recent happy experience of an old friend with marked hearing loss (now uses aids in both ears), careful positioning of speakers and seats, and room treatment to decrease reflections, are things to consider along with running the auto setup.
