If I use the Digital Coaxial from my 8300HDC then I get "Dolby Digital" on channels that support it.

If I use HDMI I NEVER get "Dolby Digital", is this right?

My receiver is Onkyo NR905.

I did try that and I got no sound at all. I will give it another shot though.

So I've done this.

NR905->Settings->I/O Assign->Digital Input->Cable/Sat = HDMI1
8300HDC->Audio: Digital Output = Dolby Digital

The NR905 reports "No Signal", if I put the 8300HDC->Audio: Digital Output = HDMI then the NR905 displays "HDMI Through" and not Dolby Digital.

If I connect the 8300HDC via Digital Coaxial and set the 8300HDC->Audio: Digital Output = Dolby Digital then it works...

Any ideas?
