About 6 years ago I purchased an Infocus X1. Up until about 2 years ago it was my main display (in an apartment no less). I now live in a house and I just finished a home theater room in my basement. If your interested in pics go - here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidbarber/sets/72157608089169820/) but Keep in mind there are still some things to finish (e.g. moulding/screen border etc) and all the lights were on when I took these so the picture looks terrible.
I'm now using the X1 in my home theatre room and it's not my main display. I use it for playing Xbox 360 and watching movies and the odd TV show. Problem is, the thing has 3,000 hours on it (original bulb) and while it still looks fairly decent I do notice that it's getting darker and darker by the day.
So the time may be approaching where I have to replace this thing. I don't think I want to switch to a TV because you just can't beat a projector's image size! I would purchase a replacement bulb for the X1, especially if it would brighten things up, but I'm not sure a $400 investment on a 7 year old projector is wise.
What are some of my upgrade options given that I'd like my next projector to have HD resolution and be somewhere in the $1000 range? (e.g. This projector (http://www.costco.ca/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=10316711&search=projector&Mo=0&cm_re=1_en-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search&lang=en-CA&Nr=P_CatalogName:BCCA&Sp=S&N=4294966901&whse=BCCA&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=Text_Search&Dr=P_CatalogName:BCCA&Ne=5000001+4000000&D=projector&Ntt=projector&No=0&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1)).
Is there anyone out there that thinks it may be worth the $364.99 to buy a new X1 bulb even, and upgrade later?
What would you guys/gals do if you were me?
UPDATE - What about something like This? (http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-DT510-720p-Theater-Projector/dp/B000O5WBGM)
