View Full Version : What is the LED DLP cycle compared to color wheels?
eightninesuited 11-08-08, 01:54 PM Just saw the 61" Samsung LED DLP yesterday. I didn't see any Rainbows. I saw rainbows on the HD70, Mits HD1000U, and the HD65. I love the color and the uniformity - and no SDE of DLP, but I see rainbows. I didn't see them yesterday. So I'm wondering what is the eqivalent of the LED cycles compared to bulb DLP and their color wheels?
Sisyphus 11-08-08, 04:01 PM You should take a look at 5x or 6x speed projectors. All of the projectors you listed are 4x color wheel speed. 4x drives me crazy, and 5x I see occasionally but can live with, and 6x would probably eliminate rainbows for me. LEDs can cycle very fast, way faster than current color wheels speeds. Maybe someone else can chime in on that.

You could always wait until the LED projectors are release.
eightninesuited 11-09-08, 12:05 AM It's going to be a while before we get $1000 LED projectors.
Can you guys name some low cost 5x DLPs?

And Marantz VP8600. The Marantz has lens shift also.
jumbo11 11-09-08, 08:55 AM I see rainbows on my Planar which is 5x.
If you see rainbows on one machine, you'll see it on any other..
naschbac 11-09-08, 12:05 PM Really? I'm super sensitive to them. I saw them regularly on my old InFocus 7205, but I've yet to see them on my Planar 7150.
Don't know why.

Use this link to look up specs on a projector.

From what they told me, that should be enough to eliminate rainbows for everybody based on some Air Force research.

Well, I'm very rainbow sensitive, although I don't have any experience with 5x or 6x wheels, I didn't see any rainbows in my 30min viewing of Hulk on Blu-ray on the Samsung 61A750 DLP set. Which leads me to believe it refreshes quite fast, as I was looking for rainbows and couldn't replicate it.
I so hope we can get some $1500 and under 720p LED DLPs next year. That's my target price. Because I've yet to see an LCD projector that can touch the image quality of a similar priced DLP.
jumbo11 11-10-08, 08:51 PM I posted above that I see rainbows on my 5x Planar and I also used to see them on my LED Samsung which I no longer own.
I don't know how that stuff works but I would image those LED would have to flash in succession to recreate the rainbow effect without the color wheel. Whatever it is, it's disappointing..
