View Full Version : HD1000 - noisy part inside (Pictures)
My Mitsubishi HD1000 has been noisy from day one. First I thought it was normal, but now 2 years but only 42 lamp hours later I think it is too noisy. Not having a warranty to worry about, I took it apart and found the part marked NMB-MAT MODEL BM6025-04W-B59 to be the source of the high-pitched vibrating noise. I put a screwdriver against it to feel the vibration. As I tap it, the noise changes. I am not sure what this part is or how to get a replacement, but seems to be trivial to swap out. Any help is appreciated.

polyscroll 11-08-08, 08:57 PM It's a fan.
Here a link to a PDF datasheet with the specs for one like it.
This is a two-wire version. The one in the projector appears to be a three-wire model.

If you can find a seller for it, it should be easily replaceable.
polyscroll 11-08-08, 09:03 PM Here is the correct part and it is available from HHGreg and Best Buy on the cheap.

Hope this helps!
Try flipping the projector on its back while raising it off the table with 4 rubber stick-on feet. You will have to switch the projection mode to ceiling mount to correct the image orientation. If it's ceiling mount then try table mounting to invert the PJ from its original location. This should get rid of the noisy fan by flipping the fan dislodging the part that's rubbing.
polyscroll: Thanks for your quick reply. I will get this part from Bestbuy, because according to resellerratings.com, hhgregg is not a reputable firm.
Huey: Thanks for your suggestion, but no matter what direction I turn this projector, the noise is about the same.
jarrod1937 11-10-08, 11:35 AM Just replace the fan. Most fans use bearings of some sort to to overcome the noise and power loss of friction. However, if one or two of those bearings go bad, eg. chunks broekn off, they will be quite noisy and nothing will fix them other than replacing them or the fan.

Interesting resellerratings states that, i've known hhgreg to have been around for quite some time, with a fairly good reputation.
Ive tooken HD1000's aparts many times, all the way down to the bottom chasi. Its very simple to do. Just start from the top and work your way down. To get to that specific fan, you will need to take apart alot of parts, so just remember to group all the screws with their parts, and to remember where everything goes. If you need help just let me know!
jarrod1937: Thanks for your replies. I ordered the part from Bestbuy, hhgregg has Lifetime Rating: 2.50 / 10 on resellerratings. That is very low in my opinion.
UFO: Thanks for the encouragement. I have taken my cars, PCs, and other devices apart and put them together many times successfully. I am planning to use common sense and take photos as I go. This fan seems to blow cooling air into the bulb assembly. With a little luck I should be done in an evening or two.
I just checked Bestbuy on resellerratings and they have an even worse Lifetime Rating: 1.95 / 10. I guess ordering from hhgregg at least would have saved the sales tax.

I have a feeling resellerratings is filled with a bunch of complaints about the products, which the stores are not liable for. BB and HHGreg are pretty reputable as far as mass chain stores go.
reconlabtech 11-10-08, 04:24 PM Like everything else online, once the haters find where they can post their hate, that business, person, or item is impossible to research online.
The stupidity in some of the complaints you read sometimes would be gut-busting funny if it weren't so sad.
Avoid the businesses that require you to "confirm" your order by calling them back.
But the best online stores, such as Monoprice and Newegg are on the top of the resellerratings list. So the resellerratings rating system seems to work...

reconlabtech 11-10-08, 05:44 PM Type in almost any regular store like Circuit City, Sears, Walmart, etc... and they will all be LOW.
I changed the fan out successfully. The projector is whisper quiet now. The only tricks were to find all the screws holding the shield, and to solder the wires off the old and new fans, since the connectors did not match. I should have done this job a long time ago. Thanks to all who replied!

It is quite satisfying to be able to do a little work for yourself sometimes! Glad you can now enjoy your PJ!
i thought this was the solution to my problem as well, and was about to take the projector aprt, but called mitsu first, and they are telling me that it is most likely not that fan, but the color wheel that is making the whinning noise. and that it should be changed every 3-4 thousand hours....can anyone offer some insight on this...i feel i could replace the fan but should have a pro do the color wheel..is there anything i can do to determine which is the cause before i spend the $$$$ to have it sent to mitsu
Sheridan1952 01-12-11, 05:52 PM That's definitely something you want to be sure of as the color wheel is very expensive. My supplier lists it at about $400.

We got an employee discount on partsearch when i worked at bestbuy, and the discount was pretty substantial.
I ordered tons of stuff from there and never had a problem. I doubt you will as well.

At this point it may be better to get an HD projector, like an Epson for $1,300. BTW the color wheel and the fan make different noises. Go to youtube and find each, then compare to yours.

thx ill try and find the different sounds, just spent $200 on a bulb, dont have a spare $1300 sitting around for entertainment, 400 for a color wheel would be pushing it right now.....i thought this thing was HD?? i have Xbox 360 hooked up HDMI at 720p is that not HD??

Yes it is HD, (720p) hence the model name "HD" 1000....
A simple effective way to determine if its the fan or the color wheel making the noise is after use when powering the unit off, the fan continues to run to cool the lamp, if the noise remains it is the fan, however when you power the unit off if the noise changes pitch and disappears immediately it is the color wheel...
