Hello,

I have a customer with 2 rp-6 units and about (5) T2C, and 1 T1 remotes, and 3 RMK-1 keypads, a CB4, one CM232 (connected to an AMX/autopatch 8x8 matrix switcher). There are three antennas two wired to the main rp-6 and one to the master rp-6. The RP-6's are linked with a cat-5 connected to SIGNAL IN and GND of both units (like to like).

The issue is that every few days the RP-6s are locked up and require a power reset to work again. The customer is extremely fustrated and wants these remote to work every day, not for a day or two. I have talked with drew and brett at RTI several times and they have told me to check for bad learned IR codes (replaced the learned codes and it didnt help), told me to change the RF address (home) it already was not on 0, They told me to try RF attenuators (he lives in a marina with smaller boats going by all the time, they think the Radar is causing the issue, but radar goes for miles so he can't avoid that if thats what is locking it up). The 20db attenuators are on order, but I am not confident htey will change anything.

I have replaced the master RP-6 (the main rack will require more work to swap, but i can) and it still locks up. I even unhooked the master RP-6 for a few days and it still acts up. I have checked for shorted IR emitters and they seem fine. Why would it work fine for a while and then lock up when no one is even home pushing anything? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Jon

Sorry.. Mine has been on since I bought it..

I wonder if the issue is with two of them. DOes this happen if you disable one?

Try that first. Does it only happen when certain commands are being sent?

No it happens even when one is unhooked.

Also, it will lock up when he is not even home pressing anything....

I had a similar problem with my own RP6 about a year ago and it ended up being a bad RM433. It wasn't easy to diagnose this because it worked perfectly for a day or two and then locked up like you described. Some times it worked for just an hour!

I posted this over at remote central

I have had this problem more than once

1--you have one or more bad antennas, disconect each antenna until the RP-6s are no longer locked up, or

2-- you have a bad ground some where between your antennas and the RP-6's.

If you have cat 5 running between you antennas and your RP-6's it is critical that you use a twisted pairs for the power, signal, & ground and that you are positive that all connections are tight with no hidden breaks, as this is the number one cause of this problem ?

it is easy to make an RP-6 lockup by simply removing the ground to the antenna as this creates a feed back loop through the signal as the antenna trys to find a stable ground

I had this problem with one of my RP-6/RM433s and it ended up being a bad antenna. Would stop responding to commands and removing and replacing power would help for a while. Then it just stopped working all together.

Replacing the antenna fixed it. Should be the first thing you try. Could be any one of your three if you have them all wired in parallel.
