Hey guys,

I don't know where to post my question.

I love some videos on youtube and want to download it in AVI format.

I have one software which download it in FLV format. Is there any good software to download youtube videos in AVI format?

I don't see how that can be legal seeing as how it's not intended to be downloaded fron youtube itself!

This utility should do what you're asking: Replay Media Catcher (http://www.applian.com/)

It's not free ($40) but you can capture any type of streaming content with it.

I also use (keepvideo) easy to use its basics and I’ve only used the basics of it so far.

YouTube Video Converter is the most powerful product to get videos from YouTube.com and convert to other video formats.

With its "downloading + playing+converting", you could easily get Youtube videos from YouTube to AVI. (Note: Apart from converting Youtube files to AVI, this Youtube to AVI Converter can also convert Youtube to MPG, 3GP, AVI)

I've used that one before, but sometimes, my download just stops just halfway through the process.

Yeap, there are many apps for getting videos from youtube, but sometimes not all of them are good.. I use a soft, MP3videoraptor, for downloading musics, videos and mp3s, from music sites and even from web radios. It's cool cause it can convert the files into the formats I need directly while downloading the files.

you just need a flv converter, for youtube video format is FLV, I recommend Leawo, with which you can easily download by drag and convert flv to almost all kinds of video formats including MP4 for iPod.

I am using FDRlab's Save2PC Pro. It is a good video grabbing software. There are several output formats to choose from like .avi, .mp4, .wmv, .3gp. No need to convert from flv format.

zamzar.com will do it for free - just paste the YouTube url in the field, select the desired transcode format, and wait for your email with the download link. I seem to remember running across a couple of other sites that offer similar free transcoding.

ffmpeg will also do it for free, but you will have to make some custom code. Not really too difficult, you can probably just google some code that suits your purpose...

I use video armada. Apart from downloading videos, it can also convert videos into mp4, avi, etc.

YouTube Downloader software that allows you to download videos from YouTube, Google Video, Yahoo Video, and many others and convert them to other video formats.
The program is easy to use, just specify the URL for the video you want to download and click the Ok button!

Oh yeah, forgot to mention-you can use Firefox, and get the youtube downloader plugin. Then use ffmpeg to convert from flv to avi, or an online converter, like I mentioned previously.

I have used a GreaseMonkey Firefox script to download the FLV files. But I generally avoid converting video to something else when I can help it since you almost always lose some quality doing that.

VLC can play the FLV files unchanged and that's been the simplest and easiest solution for me.
