Hey Wendel!
How's the weather in the city of Brotherly Love?
SNF Mixer 11-09-08, 07:19 PM Overcast, but nice. 59 degrees. It's smells like charcoal and meat outside.

Sounds like an optimal mixing environment.
totalownership 11-09-08, 07:31 PM Trying to scan for it now with my TV's tuner on the bare cable. Comcast Essex County NJ. If anyone knows the QAM number today for NBC HD let me know ;). Might try hooking up an antenna and see if I can get it over the air. Just seems going through the box is worse than letting the TV pick it up from cable. Might be my mind playing with me but it seems so. Also if I let the tuner do it I can select "Dot-by-Dot" without having a green line on the right being displayed which is what happens when I go dot using the cable box.
EDIT: Just finished scanning and just can't find it. Found the SD version but not the HD one. So it's either cable box or antenna. :(

Mmmmmmmm.......
sansri88 11-09-08, 08:26 PM Ch 32 is NBC-HD on clear QAM. Should be remapped to 4-1 though.
Just lost HD, I think a network issue.
HD came back during the break.

GregAnnapolis 11-09-08, 09:41 PM According to TSReader, I'm seeing about 4.4Mbps less bitrate on the NBC video than CBS video. The audio is roughly the same (~398Kbps). Video on NBC (WRC out of Washington DC) is sitting at about 13.25Mbps as opposed to video from earlier today on WJZ (CBS Baltimore MD) which was about 17.6Mbps. Does this even seem reasonable? If so, it would seem to confirm what my eyes have been telling me all along.

Yep. WRC, like other NBC O&Os, is carrying Weather+ and Universal Sports as SD subchannels; WJZ, like other CBS O&Os, has no SD subchannels.
coyoteaz 11-09-08, 09:54 PM No problems with the broadcast here other than the usual subpar NBC PQ. KXAS Dallas via FiOS.

Maybe, but not necessarily.
The bit rate you get would depend on how many subchannels each station is running. Of course, more bits would be better, and in your case, NBC is getting shorted compared to CBS.
Broadcast network HD image quality also depends on the quality of the feed the network is sending. Right now, NBC is using the same codec as ABC & CBS, MPEG2, and using a bit rate that's approximately 50% less than what they use (FOX has a different system, the Splicer).
So, both local sub channels and network distribution can affect what you see in your home.
Both NBC & ABC are moving to MPEG4, a more efficient codec, in the very near future. This should really help NBC.
totalownership 11-09-08, 09:57 PM hold on a game just broke out
Yeah , the Giants are making this game more interesting than it needs to be. Come on Giants just smoke these guys already:mad:

That's what I thought. So it sounds like I'm double screwed with respect to NBC -- the network feed is already weaker, so then when they add in the two subchannels, it's even worse. Strange that they find this okay. Unfortunately, WBAL (Baltimore) isn't a whole lot better -- they don't carry the DD5.1, and the picture is still lousy. So I'm left with no acceptable NBC affiliates. Meh.
Edit: How near future are we talking for the MPEG4?
Yeah , the Giants are making this game more interesting than it needs to be. Come on Giants just smoke these guys already:mad:
With Manning just getting into mid-season interception form, this one could be interesting right to the very end.
RAVEN56706 11-09-08, 10:02 PM come on giants... you had control of the game... arrgghhh i hate the eagles... but on the plus side... the cheerleaders are HOT
RAVEN56706 11-09-08, 10:03 PM Ken H.... that pass was a stupid one... but the other 2 touchdowns were right on target... manning can be erratic at times but it wasnt a pass to the other player... it was a deflection

GVLSandlapper 11-09-08, 10:37 PM Looking great on WYFF Charter Cable/Greenville, SC.
E-A-G-L-E-S 11-09-08, 10:41 PM Wow, what a horrible call on the overturn.
Watching crystal clear on 112" and he was over the line with the right heel by the time the ball got off his fingertips...even if it was close it certainly wasn't indisputable to overturn call on the field.
Just horrible.
All I know is the Eagles couldn't play any worse and we're right in it.
kaiservt 11-09-08, 10:42 PM I want an NFL Cheerleader Channel in HD. All Cheerleaders...all the time! I don't know why...but the Eagles ladies are lookin good tonight.

That was too close to call. You never really got a good look at it but from what I saw I tend to agree with you BUT it all evens out because you guys been getting away with crazy holds. That one busted screen play before the half should have been pick six the other way but one of your guys held the mess outta a Giant defender right in front of the side judge
EDIT: Can't believe that I just witnessed 3 of the most DUMBEST plays called in a roll. LORD HAVE MERCY!!!!
mtiffee 11-09-08, 10:58 PM Hey Wendel,
Just got home from a show. I watched some of the game on my Delta flight home. I put on headphones and could barely hear announcing. I could hear crowd and music. Not your issue of course, even the commericals were that way. Very odd, but nice to watch a game with just efx.
Now I'm home and my NBC only does 2.0. They suck. Everyone seems to like your 5.1 mix, I guess I'll just have to take their word for it... :D
Hope you're well, tell Geoff I said hey.

totalownership 11-09-08, 11:03 PM Forgot to mention. Getting it over Comcast Essex County NJ through the cable box. Shockingly good picture. Very little if any pixelation. Decent sound mix.
Ok so the refs do know what a hold looks like, now lets see if they can see when the guys in the green shirts do it also.

Eagles better get a score right now.

5 point game, 5:30 remaining in regulation.

I'm not sure I agree on going for 2 when the Giants went up 36-24. It seemed there was still enough time in the game to just play it safe and go for 1.

Nothing to gain by going for 1. A 12 or 13 point lead means losing if the other team scores 2 TDs, while a 14 point lead means a tie after 2 TDs, assuming the opposing coach doesn't go crazy and try for 2 and the win.

All I know is the Eagles couldn't play any worse and we're right in it.
It was painfully obvious that the ball was out of his hand before his right leg/foot was completely over the line. And by "the line" I mean the actual line of scrimmage that extends from where the line of scrimmage marker was, not the computer generated red line overlay that was at least a foot behind the real line of scrimmage. Even when they replayed it later with a "correctly" placed red line that was still about 4-6 inches behind the real line, both announcers agreed that he wasn't fully across it when the ball was out of his hands.

Being tied vs being behind if the other team scores 1 TD and 2 FGs (there was probably enough time left for that to be possible) is something to be gained by going for 1.

I understand your point, but at that time there was 9:35 left in the game.
Having a 13 point lead means needing 1TD and 2FG to tie. Otherwise having only a 12 point lead means 1TD and 2 FG to win.
But as someone famous once said;
"YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!"
Obviously that did not work out for the Chiefs yesterday.
Great win by the Giants. I am hurting today - 11:45 p.m. East Coast time is too late to end a game on a work night.

Perhaps you need a better display.
And you might need to turn your audio up as they both were unsure either way....just like I said....clearlynot indisputable to overturn call on the field.
Also, Madden has no clue anymore. ;)

I thought it was funny when they showed the "adjusted" line of scrimmage later in the game.
But at best that was a close call. I think it could have gone either way.
E-A-G-L-E-S 11-10-08, 10:01 AM I agree...which is why you don't overturn the call on the field.
The refs made several bad calls both ways, black eye game for this years refs...again.
NFL officiating is awful this year.
Like the strip of Jacobs at the goal line.
They were bad both ways, but juts screwed the Birds much more.
Good thing we play them again.
E-A-G-L-E-S 11-10-08, 10:13 AM Homcom....can you please tell someone that it might be a good idea to set-up across the goal lines cameras.
How in this day and age NBC doesn't know to have straight across goal line cams is embarrasing at best.
The adjusted red line didn't help NBC's reputation either.
I agree...which is why you don't overturn the call on the field.

Eagles, I think all those calls could have gone either way. Never before do I remember a game being decided by inches in more than one call as happened last night. I do agree in those cases it should go with the ruling on the field but that was not the case with over the line of scrimmage but was with Jacobs TD. So I believe they got one wrong but the other one right. Either way if your a Giants fan your happy, if your an Eagles fan your not, thats how it rolls sometimes.
E-A-G-L-E-S 11-10-08, 10:30 AM I hear ya and somewhat agree as well, but......
That's easy to say when your team won the SB last year. ;)
Try 47 years of "that's how it rolls sometimes"....and that just doesn't cut it anymore.
I've had my head in my hands at the vet and linc too many times. :(
How about no goal line cam?
RAVEN56706 11-10-08, 10:35 AM there were alot of blown calls in the NFL... that one was too close to call but ... oh who am i kidding....
The giants were losing to themselves and not the eagles.... with the high hurdling and stupid mistakes..... the giants could have closed the game in the first half....
Nice win and nice being 8-1.....this is the NFL.... there will always be blown calls but those were close ones....
E-A-G-L-E-S 11-10-08, 10:37 AM One?
Losing to themselves?
The Eagles couldn't have played and even more so coached any worse on top of the "close calls".
RAVEN56706 11-10-08, 10:39 AM true but the giants were losing at one point and the momentum turned.... but when it was 17-7, the giants had the ball again and thats when jacobs fumbled the ball..... like i said... this should have been a blowout for the giants but they kept philly in the game...
E-A-G-L-E-S 11-10-08, 10:41 AM That's funny that you actually believe that.
Even if he scored, there was most of the game left to play.
You won, but barely and with help.....we'll see again in new jersey in december.
At least we made Eli show his true colors again.....without that o-line and running game he'd still be a below average to average QB.
By the way, how did that o-line come from being the laughing stock of the league to here? Is it iall B.J.?

hate to say it but the below average QB lead his team to a championship winning drive against the Patriots... something your highly regarding Qb couldnt do...LOLOLOL... :p... you made me do it...
its all good... you win some you lose some... any given sunday.... but our offense line is awesome.. no idea how they got so good...
and to be honest i hate the eagles but you guys dont come close to the hatred i have for the Cowboys.....
Directv HD here... looked great.....
My unbiased opinion (big Giants fan): In the end, the refs got the replay calls correct.
E-A-G-L-E-S 11-10-08, 11:01 AM Trent Dilfer. ;)
I know he mentally chokes in big games at clutch times sometimes(while I pull my hair out)....but we don't try to fool ourselves.
RAVEN56706 11-10-08, 11:26 AM i have to ask though... when ball crosses the plain... the touchdown was called... but how long before the ref blows the whistle... hell... it seems as though they want the person in a pile up situation to be dead before they make the call...

If you couldn't see the 1ft difference between the arbitrarily placed red line and the actual line of scrimmage marker, I don't think display has anything to do with it.
I also had the audio up just fine. I heard Madden, after they showed replay with the re-adjusted red line, say "Well, if they had shown the line in that spot the first time, I would have been in complete agreement with the call to overturn." Did you shut off the game in anger before that happened?
Good thing the ref didn't have a random red line in the wrong spot in the replay booth. He might have totally ignored the real LOS marker like the announcers and you seemed to do.
E-A-G-L-E-S 11-10-08, 11:55 AM Did you stop listening after that....because after another replay Michaels, who is also mindless nowadays, said boy live it looked like he was over and after this last replay it does and madden just mumbled.
If you think they knew for one second that is hilarious.
There were also other jobs by the refs.
The Eagles will get their revenge in new jersey.

Yep, NBC even got the line wrong the second time, they put it on the tip of the ball after the center had picked it up. In the replays you could see the down marker on the sideline, it was on the 20.

EXACTLY. I don't know understand why people don't get this. Forget those stupid graphics. I've been ignoring those for years now because they're almost never correct. The actual REAL LIFE marker was damn near exactly on the 20. Thats why they were able to , with absolute confidence, say he was behind the line when he threw it. Centers almost always pull the ball back some from the actual line of scrimmage.
Good thing we play them again.
Be careful what you wish for.......
E-A-G-L-E-S 11-10-08, 12:31 PM That was only one of the calls and it very debatable whether it was indisputable, which it needs to be.
Unless they play as bad as they did last night, I like the Birds chances.
We really miss the best right guard in pro football.
RAVEN56706 11-10-08, 12:35 PM here is the NFL official statement:
"In last night's game between the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles, the Giants faced a 3rd-and-10 from just outside the Eagles' 20 with 6:25 remaining in the third quarter. The Giants were penalized on the play for an illegal forward pass. New York challenged the ruling."
"Rule 8, Section 1, Article 1, Note 3 of the NFL Rule Book (page 49) states that 'the penalty for a forward pass beyond the line is to be enforced from the spot where the ball is released when the passer's entire body and the ball are beyond the line of scrimmage. This includes either when the passer is airborne or touching the ground.'"
"The instant replay review determined that Giants quarterback Eli Manning was not entirely beyond the line of scrimmage when he released the pass. Thus, the on-field ruling of an illegal forward pass was reversed by referee Terry McAulay. The result of the pass completion gave New York a first-and-goal at the Philadelphia three."
"Please note that the red line used on the telecast to indicate the line of scrimmage - just outside the Eagles' 20 - is not official. In reviewing the play, Terry McAulay relied on the position of the line-of-scrimmage marker held by the chain crew, which officially is located on the head linesman's side of the field."
nice for the nfl to clarify for everyone... GO GIANTS
E-A-G-L-E-S 11-10-08, 01:14 PM Anyone who knows anything about football knows the rule, it is not the rule I am challenging. ;)

Did you see the numbers? They were something like 3/14 when the run on 3rd/4th and short while they were 3/3 when passing. At least try a play action pass when the first run didn't work. Everyone in the building knew what was coming.

sirjonsnow 11-10-08, 03:28 PM Didn't the line of scrimmage rule use to be that if ANY of the player's body was past the line, it was an illegal pass? Now it's ALL of his body has to be past the line for it to be illegal?? When did that rule get changed?
Also, those Eagles cheerleaders rank up there with the very best. One brunette was so stunning (mostly a face shot) I actually had to go look up the Eagles cheerleaders site. Oh, Maria.....
