I am about to purchase a Plasma display to complement my BDP-S350. I have narrowed the field to Pioneer Kuro (non-elite) and Panasonic 800U models. As I understand it, both series have 24p support but folks report the Panasonic as flickering, perhaps due to the 48 Hz refresh rate (vs. 72 on the kuro). Is this actually a big deal? Will I be losing anything running the 800U at 60 Hz?

I have the panny 50800u. Although some people have noticed flickering I haven't noticed any when using 24 fps output to my display. But, to be honest, I can't tell much, if any, difference between the 48fps and 60 fps displays.

That's good to hear. It seems like the 50" kuro and 58" panny cost about the same so I may well go for the larger screen. Everyone seems to agree the kuro has the best blacks available, yet it may be tough to notice unless you are comparing them side-by-side. The 24p mode was the only other feature I really cared about. But it may be that the 48 Hz output will be fine; or that I just run it at 60.
