Ok, here is the deal. I need a plasma TV for my living room. Right now I have a Samsung LNT4071F for my game room and I love this thing. I am looking to get another Samsung (plasma) that is just as good if not better then my 4071F except Im looking for a no less then 55-58". What can you guys reccommend for me?

I was looking at the Samsung PN58A550 in the Circuit City flyer but didnt know if it was comparable to my 4071f or not.

Get the 58 inch pn58a550 or pn58a650. Both are reviewed well. If you can get the 650 for only a bit more than the 550, then I recommend that route. These sets will provide far better picture quality than your current set, and the difference in immersion due to screen size is huge. All told, it will be a fantastic upgrade. Black levels, color accuracy, motion blur, viewing angle, all that important stuff will improve, so have no fear that you are getting a better set.

Unfortunately your 4071 will look puny after viewing your new set, so you may want to just part with it or use it strictly for standard def viewing. I should say that while you will see a definite improvement accross the board with high-quality HD sources, don't expect SD to look better, and it will actually probably look worse. This is the effect of a larger screen size. And remember to increase your viewing distance a bit for all sources, you likely should be farther back than your 4071 or percieved PQ will suffer.

The large sammy plasmas are some of the better sets overall on the market today, and represent good value as they are often a bit less than some of the other large plasmas.

OK so that would be a good set. The 550 was 3k at CC. Im not looking to spend more then that. The 4071f is a fantasic set and I would never toss that guy out. I am only using it for games because its in my gameroom. Its not a huge room so anything bigger in that room would be OVERKILL. I am 8-9 ft away from the 40" and I should be about 12 or so ft away from the 58 when I get everything set up.

Anyone else have any advice on this set? I will be buying this TV tomorrow so I want to be sure I am getting a nice set that I will be very happy with. Other then that what do I have to do with this TV in terms of breaking it in or whatever else is nessesary to use it without issues? I have never owned a plasma and want to be sure I treat it properly. It will be used mainly for TV, DVD/BD watching and the occasional PS3 game since my BD player will be a PS3.
