View Full Version : Help me pick out 2 TVs here...
lastrites 11-09-08, 08:41 PM Both would be 42-46 inch.
One is for a living room with some ambient light that will most likely be wall mounted, and that will be used mainly for BD movies and sports (hockey).
One is for my bedroom, used for the same purposes, no light issues.
Maybe I should be looking at the same TV for both?
Would like to stay in the mid price range (possibly budget).
No preference when it comes to LCD or plasma.
Thanks!
check out the panny 46pz85 and the 42pz85, they r 1080 and would be great for both.
Or check out the Panasonic PX80u series...you could snag a 42" for 800 with todays sales prices.
lastrites 11-10-08, 01:08 AM Thanks I will check those out. Seems Pannys are recommended here quite often.
corpfan1 11-10-08, 01:23 AM All I can add is...
DON'T GET AN LCD FOR HOCKEY - you will be sorry...
BLUR...BLUR...BLUR!!!!

For some "mid price" means $1000.00 for others it's $3000.00
Buy the best Panny or Pioneer Plasma that fits your budget.
I'd rather have one great TV than 2 mediocre.

Wow, I've read some people say that plasma's blur worse than LCD.
Thanks for the info -- also, price range specifically would be about $1k.. :)

corpfan1 11-10-08, 04:09 PM ????
No motion blur on these - at least not the Pioneers or most Panasonics. As they don't have lag.

I would look at both Samsung and Panasonic 720p plasma sets.
lastrites 11-10-08, 08:53 PM Panasonic 50px80u
I think the 50 is a little big :)
Buckeye911 11-10-08, 09:05 PM Panasonic 50px80u

Panasonic 42px80u is an excellent plasma at a very low price.
Thanks I will check those out. Seems Pannys are recommended here quite often.
Since you have posted your question on the Plasma side of the forum you will get mainly recommendations for plasma.
Plasma does have it's own issues that everyone here is aware of and will deny to the end. Plasma can and does have lag/motion blur issues, it is just that most people are not sensitive to it. Green trails, line ghosting, the dreaded Hum or Buzz and Image Retention.
Check out the Samsung LCD sets while you are at it. Also I do recommend the Panasonics as well, they are very solid sets and offer some great features.
Bill1313 11-11-08, 11:25 AM Checkout the Panasonic PX80 Owners thread because someone just got the 42" PX80 from Sears for under $650 & people have got Special Deals on the 50" for around $850 delivered from internet outfits. Also check with the Forum Sponsors because they usually have some pretty good deals available too.
lastrites 11-11-08, 11:44 PM great thannks!!
i agree 100% blur is soo bad on lcd i wont even consider it until its fixed with NO add on's and natively.

Plasma dont blurr compared to lcd, however they do have to have their "motion resolution" improved.
Lcd blurr like crap all the time its in its technology, and they try to have add on's to compete and stay in the game with plasma, such as 120hz

Tng yes your right in the fact that plasma guys wont say much about the flaws that it has HOWEVER with the limited if any issues i'd rather take those then the CONSTENT issues lcd has like
motion blurr, motion resolution, TBE, clouds, mura, Uneven backlighting, poor viewing angles axis, Sample N hold, blooming
among other issues .... now does plasma look bad compared to lcd? OH op and plasma is lower price then lcd :D

Ranelar 11-17-08, 07:52 PM I just bought the 42px80u (720p) for $685 "out the door" from 6ave.com (no tax, free shipping to CA). There are actually a lot of deals going on right now for the 42px80u and 50px80u. I'm feeling a little bit of buyer's regret after reading around here more, because I avoided a 50" deal since I thought 720p would not be sufficient for that size, but talk around here seems to indicate that I would have been fine. Anyway, if you want the 42" deal, here's a link

Use "COUPONCABIN" to save 6% to bring it down to $685

What LCD is going to rival a plasma at the $1000.00 mark?
