Hi All. I am a newbie and totally out of date. The reason I am on here for this question is because most of our Sony cams are having a similar problem. My mom's digital Sony, bought almost 10 years ago is bad. My Brother Sony mini DV cam is bad with the same problem. My Sony dv cam bought around 5 or 6 years ago is also having the same problem too. They are all using the dv mini tape.

The problem is that they keep making the linking sound while flashing and not functioning at all. If I try to turn it off, take the tape off, and put it back in, once in a while it will work but only for a little while and the problem comes right back when you press record.

Is there a quick fix for this problem? Does it worth it to find a place to fix them? If not, I will have to come up with more questions on which cam to get now since I am already sick of Sony cam although I love Sony cams since that is the only one I have been using for a long time.
Thanks in advance.

You dont say how old your brothers cam is or how much use the cams have had, cams 6 plus years with medium use can start to give problems, its all about use, also not using a machine for a long whiole can bring problems if its just left unused, most tape cams i have had start to give trouble at some period .

Thanks in advance.I am not aware of any quick fix.

You might look for a camcorder repair shop to see if they can give you an estimate.

We don't even know what models you have. Have you e-mailed Sony?

it won't be cost-effective to fix your sonys, put the repair bill towards a new hd camcorder that doesn't use tape.

take a look at the canon hf10/hg20(?)/hf11 series.
