Hi All,

Recently I built a HTPC for my rig, necessitating the need for something to switch HDMI devices between that and my PS3. I replaced my amp with a Yamaha RX-V1800 to switch and pass HDMI to my monitor. After almost memorizing the Yamaha manual, and trying just about everything, I have gotten nowhere making this work ... no picture or sound to the monitor.

The monitor is a Toshiba 65H84 rear-projection unit, about 4 years old now. The manual for the set claims it is HCDP compliant "designed to accept material in digital form from EIA/CEA-861/861B-compliant devices" The set displays 1080i but not 1080p.

I can connect either the HTPC or PS3 directly to the monitor and it works just fine. Connecting these inputs to the receiver then the HDMI out of the receiver gives me nothing.

The reciever is HDMI 1.3a, as is the output of the HTPC. I'm not sure what the PS3 is. I've swapped and replace all cables, all are 1.3a compliant.

Any help would be appriciated ... thanks!

Does the receiver output any sound from the HDMI inputs when the "HDMI SET: SUPPORT AUDIO" option is set to "RX-V1800"?

Does the receiver front panel give any error indications? Does the HDMI indicator light up? It should when the HDMI souce is selected.

What are the "I/O ASSIGNMENT" settings on the receiver for HDMI? Make sure that they are set for HDMI in to HDMI out, not component, composite, etc. to HDMI out.

Have you tried all the HDMI inputs and input source selection options:
IN1 BD/HD DVD
IN2 DVD
IN3 DTV/CBL
IN4 DVR
?

If nothing works I suggest you contact Yamaha for help. HDMI is known for having digital rights protocol problems, and perhaps that's what's happening.

Carl, thanks for the reply......

No.

No error indications, HDMI does light up for both inputs.

In each case HDMI was turned on for each I/O. In fact, I even tried disabling all I/Os except for HDMI for each input.

Have you tried all the HDMI inputs and input source selection options:
Yup, I tried all combinations and one at a time on all inputs. In every case I saw the HDMI indicator light come on as expected.

Looks like I'll have to try to see if Yamaha can help. I fear a monitor replacement may be necessary, and 65" of anything ain't cheap these days!

No.You should at least be able to get audio. Try disconnecting the HDMI output and see if you can get any audio from the HDMI inputs.
