Is there a noticeable difference in the picture quality between the HF10 and HF11? Does the increased bitrate on the HF11 show in the recordings? I am looking for a camcorder to record family events like birthday parties, vacations and probably sports a little later. Without a doubt, just like every digital camera we have had, it will end up on the "auto" setting and the manual functions will never be used. Will the HF11 show a superior picture?
fwiw, the reviews that i've seen claim that there isn't a big difference in the picture quality.
i paid the premium for the hf11 because i use it in a prosumer environment, where more bitrate counts, but for home use i would have waited until the pricing dropped a bunch.

One issue which I don't see mentioned anywhere ever is the battery usage. The HF11 lasts about 20-30 minutes longer on the same battery as the HF10 according to the camcorderinfo review (I think it was).

The hf11 is newer and I blieve the chips they use in it are more mature on the same process and are running at a lower voltage. I've noticed that my hf11 stays cooler than the hf10 and yes the standard battary lastslonger.
The hf11 comes with 32 gigs of on board memory vs 16 of the hf11.
I think in the end though your going to find about a $200 diffrence in pricing. I would certianly go with the hf11 at that point. $200 over the course of the 5-10 years you might hold on and use the camera is really very little and in the end you can't add quality to a clip. 10 years from now the footage on the hf10 wll only be 17mbps no mattr what you do. I don't know what type of displays we will have then but i'm sure any higher bitrate will only help at that point.

Hi, could you tell me what you're basing this on?
I see in both the HF10 and HF11 manuals, they have identical specs:
Power supply (rated)
7.4 V DC (battery pack), 8.4 V DC (compact power adapter)
Power consumption (SP mode, AF on)
3.9 W (LCD screen, normal brightness, recording in the built-in memory*) * only
4.0 W (LCD screen, normal brightness, recording on a memory card)
Also, under the "Features" section of each camcorder at the Canon site, they both say: "Canon Exclusive: DIGIC DV II Image Processor".
It seems both camcorders should be identical, except the 16gb extra storage and 24mbps for the HF11.
Maybe it was your particular HF10, or you heard this from others also or have seen info posted somewhere?
Thanks.
