Hi All,

I need help deciding between this two projectors. My concerns with the Benq is the black level (compared to the ae3000) and picture noise. Any input from people that have seen both is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Between the 2 units I believe the Benq would be the better of the 2 units as long as you do not suffer from RBE... But they would be close in overall performance.

But if you would have to pay $750.00 or more for the W20000 then the AE3000, The W20000 is not worth the difference.

I know a very honest seller on Videogon selling a W20000 for a good price, you should ask him some questions about the unit. He goes through a lot of different projectors and has a lot of good information to share.

I am rather partial to DLPs and am not bothered by rainbows so I would take the Benq, but LCOS (JVC, Sony), LCD (lots) and DLP (lots) really look very different. The OP ought to see all the types. The LCD battleground has a lot of new models and the new JVCs ought to be awesome.

Why limit to these two?

Nice review. Can you comment what firmware versions were in Benq W5000 and W20000? Some notes in this review suggests that the W5000 was equipped with older firmware than the W20000.

I was having the same dilemma a few days ago but eventually went with the AE3000. AE3000 is a good projector, my only complaint is the less then stellar 480i upscaling/deinterlacing. The image does look slightly soft but shadow detail is excellent. If I have to rate the sharpness Mits HC5000 => Sony vw60 > AE3000.

Is screen door effect a problem on the w20000. I had a Benq 10000 and the screen door really bothered me. I had an ae700 and ae2000 and I loved the fact that I could not see any screen door effect.

I guess it depends on your screen size and where you sit. I sit about 11 feet away with a 92" screen and I don't see any screendoor.

DLP's can have more noticeable screendoor. Even though they are 1080p and a higher fill factor than LCD, because they tend to be so sharp the actual pixel structure can be noticed on occassion with certain setups.
But, you'd have to have a large screen and/or be close.
