I went there to check out some prices on newly released titles and all I get is the store locater.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the company's bankruptcy.

It's sad to see the beginning of the end of an electronics store.

I read that Circuit City owes the studios tons of money for DVD's/BD's that Circuit City has taken possession of but has not paid for yet (I want to say between $50-75 million). This could get ugly...

I'm sure its only the beginning.

i work at cc and i can say its the beginning. I work in one of the better stores and am leaving as soon as I can get another job. Theres been so many poor decisions even I, a 23 year old non business maker can point out several flaws in upper level management.

Circuit City has already filed for bankruptcy, though they've recieved a huge loan in their attempts to remain solvent through the holiday season.

They owe the studios $35M

By filing chapter 11 instead of chapter 7 and assuming that they filed in the right state there is almost nothing the creditors can do to them. Suppliers can even be forced to keep shipping them product even though every one knows they will never get paid.
Just look at the long sad history of Sco if you need an example. They will probably never be able to recover but they also won't die any time soon.

I was interested in a Sony av receiver when it was introduced it was 399.99 retail, now it is up to $426.99 at cc. BB has it for the 399.99 and so does Sony style.
If you don't have the best prices to compete you will never recover from the bk filing.
I think they will be out of business completely by Spring 09.

To keep this on topic with this board, they never embraced Blu-Ray.
They never had a low price on new release BR.
They always put the stock of BRs out last.
They kept a decent stock of catalog titles but happily priced them at MSRP+

I work at CC and totally agree. Blurays are so overpriced. But they're not worth buying at bestbuy or walmart either. Deepdiscount/Amazon for the win.

Though I've never liked CC because I would rather be ignored by BB ignoramuses than lied to by CC liars, it has had some good hardware deals, resulting in my owning an Optoma HD70 projector and the Toshiba HD-a2. The news media tell us that service contracts will be protected in a bankruptcy (I have one for the projector). Is this really a sure thing?

Ok. Circuit City has no BDs (or DVDs) on the web site. Thanks for the info.
