NICE! Thanks for the early review.
Partyslammer 11-12-08, 11:51 AM Watched Tropic Thunder blu-ray last night. Much as I liked "Tropic Thunder" when I saw it in the theater last Summer, I think I laughed my ass off twice as much watching it last night. Even the few out takes (which are basically long improve bits while they let the cameras run) are pretty funny. They did a bunch of promotional stuff I was unaware of before it came out including one trailer calling it "Rain of Madness" like it was an Apocalypse Now/Heart of Darkness style documentary. Top it off with a rambling audio commentary that includes Robert Downy Jr in character as "Sgt. Osiris."
A/V quality is really good, exceptional detail and rock solid colors in the day light jungle scenes. Plenty of subwoofer action with all the explosions and the classic rock songs backing the soundtrack like The Rolling Stones' "Sympathy for the Devil" and CCR's "Run Through The Jungle" sound fantastic with enveloping surround sound mixes. I will honestly say I paid little attention to audio/video details after a few minutes into this movie because it was just so funny.
Up there in my top 10 comedies of all time.

mhafner 11-12-08, 02:35 PM So, is the 'extended definition' evident? :D
cybersoga 11-12-08, 02:42 PM is there an ABC region code logo on the back?
Ralph Potts 11-12-08, 02:47 PM is there an ABC region code logo on the back?
Greetings,
It just indicates Region A...
Cheers,
Both audio and video were pretty sound. Thought the movie was average in theaters and when I watched it today I liked it better.

Disney and Pixar have brought Wall-E to home theaters on Blu-ray in yet another of their remarkable direct to digital transfers. As is the case with digitally created movies, no film was used in the transfer process and as a result, we are treated to pristine and flawless video performance. Wall-E is presented in its original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.40:1 and has been given a high-bitrate transfer using the AVC / Mpeg-4 codec that frequently maxes out the limits of Blu-ray video capabilities. As one would expect from a Pixar film, the results are simply stunning.
Wall-E begins with a rather bland and natural color palette that is well represented on Blu-ray. Earth’s mutated and hazy atmosphere in the film is presented without a trace of noise or digital artifacts. As is normally the case with computer animation, there is a tremendous amount of detail present in every shot and the Blu-ray encode does a stellar job of delivering this extreme detail as flawlessly as possible. As the story progresses, Wall-E finds himself in more colorful surroundings and this stellar Blu-ray presentation rises to the challenge by beautifully rendering the vibrant and lush colors that are presented. What else is there to say? Wall-E is as perfect and stunning on Blu-ray as anyone could have hoped. It’s another reference grade transfer and, again, Pixar sets the gold standard for picture quality and video performance. Wall-E is a must own title and easily earns my highest recommendation.

lol, remember in the movie he said he doesnt get out of character til after the dvd commentary?
Matt_Stevens 11-14-08, 12:56 PM WALL-E is something I just might blind buy. Have never done it with a Blu-Ray. Heck, haven rarely done it, period. But this looks so amazing. I could kill myself for missing out on it in a theater. :(
Wall-E has excellent video and audio. It even sounds great in lossy. The PQ and AQ on Tropic Thunder is excellent as well. The PQ on Tropic Thunder is reference and another stunner from Paramount.
UCFKevin 11-14-08, 03:26 PM Matt, I echo your statements completely. I hate that I didn't see it in theaters. Absolutely hate it.
paul nyc 11-14-08, 03:35 PM Hi, sorry for the delay.
WALL-E as expected is tier O without hesitation
TROPIC THUNDER is great. Beautiful, lush greens just as i remembered it in the theatre. THD is great as well.
I did a blind buy on Wall E myself. I saw a 4k digital preview of Tropical Thunder before it came out and couldn't believe how good the jungle scenes looked.

Now more titles will be introduce on blu ray disc in some time later. I think new diney animated film "Bolt 3d" is also on DTS-HD MA.
