Ok, so my Z4 is 2 years and 2 weeks old. I haven't had any problems with it except for a bum replacement bulb that Sanyo sent as my freebie. But Monday night when we got home, it wouldn't turn on. When I hit power, the 'Power' and 'Replace Lamp' lights started blinking. The manual said that meant that either the lamp needed replacing or there was some other system problem. So I replaced the lamp with a spare I bought when the original replacement crapped out. The old lamp looked fine. With the new lamp, same result of flashing lights.

I left it unplugged for an hour and tried again. I left it unplugged overnight and tried again. Same thing.

So I did an online QRP request and was sent the return authorization within an hour, with FedEx picking it up about an hour after that. Then I came on here and searched for threads. And promptly got scared. I had been reassuring my wife that everything would be ok, since if we had bought the Panny it would be a year out of warranty and the Epson it would be 2 weeks out of warranty. But we still had a year. Now, I'm really worried. Especially since the technician listed on the QRP e-mail was RASMUSSEN.

I am preparing by going over the manual and finding all of the warnings about overheating, continuous use, cleaning filters, etc. And I have contacted Projector People and told them they may need to get involved. And then I will be ready to work through Visa for their extended warranty protection because sometimes they will help if a manufacturer declines.

Any good news from any Sanyo owners in these situations?
Any other advice (besides "don't buy Sanyo")?

Thanks,

-Joe

Most likely your Z4 overheated and tripped the thermostat safety switch. This happened to mine before and it's a simple DIY fix. Too bad you've already sent it in, otherwise you could've tried the fix first. The fix involves opening the top shell and pressing a reset button.

Hmmm... I wish I had known that, but I would think if it was something that could be DIY fixed, the tech support would have called or e-mailed me to try the troubleshooting, unless it was something that wold void the warranty, I guess.
Well, FedEx showed it as delivered, so now it's a waiting game.

EDIT: Just checked online. Checked in as received by FORNADLEY. Anyone deal with him?

i sent my z3 to sanyo twice, 1 bad polarizer, 5 months later a bad optic block, they never once questioned anything and returned my unit to me in the same week fixed. - oh but i did mention AVSforum, so they probably knew not to mess with me, power in numbers!

Good to know. I definitely would have mentioned AVS forum if it would have been over the phone, but there was no one answering yesterday (Veterans Day), so I had to use the online for and they limited the comments to 254 characters.

Just saw this on the QRP inquiry

"CLEANED AIR FILTERS AND ALL OPTICS. RESET THERMAL SWITCH. "

So, yeah, I guess I could use that DIY method now that you mention it. Here's hoping they ship quick and I get it tomorrow, and not have to live w/o for a weekend. Ack.

EDIT: Yay! Arrived safe and sound at 11:30 this morning.

Thanks again,
Joe
