View Full Version : New Sirius Lineup

Sadly they dropped Boombox. Now the only electronic station worth listening to is Chill. The other two are crap.
mjones73 11-12-08, 11:14 AM Backspin is gone also, two of my favorites.
ktk0117 11-12-08, 11:30 AM And instead of adding a new comedy channel, they just replaced one with another?
FAIL
They replaced Buzzsaw with Boneyard...which is fine, but why in gods name did they move the AC/DC channel onto it UNTIL JANUARY?!?!?!
Is it just me, or do these 24/7 artist channels suck? Who really wants to listen to 1 artist that much anyways?
jwohlfeil 11-12-08, 12:12 PM Today is the day my love for Sirius ended.*
Recently you've received email from me pleading to have PUNK 29 return to the air. In fact, I was told by Sirius in email, that the AC/DC channel on 29 was only a temporary move and that in January, PUNK 29 and it's programming would return to the air.*
And after I found out about the PUNK 29 changes I vowed to cancel my subscription(s) if they ever take away BACKSPIN 43.*
This morning I lost BACKSPIN 43.
You are doing your subscribers a huge disservice by eliminating an entire era or "classic" music. During the late '70s and early '80s both PUNK and OLD SCHOOL RAP were an underground movement that people around the world embraced. If you grew up during this time these two music genre shaped a way of life. Hard to find mix tapes and do-it-yourself record releases were an exciting part of this movement. Block parties on the East, and basement shows and independent tours in the back of a van to the West - MADE the culture during this time.
There is a music history lesson here that is being overlooked by your programmers. Old school rap and the music celebrated on BACKSPIN 43, and the live DJ personalities on the channel are iconic in their contribution to this history. These people (Kurtis Blow, Dana Dane, Lady B, Awesome 2, DJ Red Alert, and everyone else on BACKSPIN 43) invented the music we hear over the airways today. They invented today's popular music and created a style that influences everything in popular culture today. And for those of us who grew up during this period of musical pioneer - we LOVE having this connection to our own roots, and the roots all of the music we hear today.
Punk rock music for years was looked down by the establishment. Truly and underground movement, many of the early punkers had to D.I.Y. They did everything themselves. Produced music, prepared shows and national tours, put recordings onto records and hand delivered them to record stores across the country. These early Pioneers put their hearts and souls into their music. Punk is something you live and love. These artists lay the groundwork for an explosion of New Punk bands in the late '90s and '00s, and a style and movement that is growing in our current popular culture. And this history, while once celebrated as finally finding a home in current times, is now SADLY being displaced by your programmers at Sirius, by canceling PUNK 29.
You are doing your customers and subscribers a disservice by eliminating this connection to a musical era that is so important to music. Almost without a care your programming department has stood high above us all, and looked down upon these pioneers once again. Pushing rap and punk rock back under the rug, where for years they were kept down and walked on by popular culture. Today, Sirius stepped on them once again.
With more than 10 channels dedicated to classic rock, and 6 more country music - it is a shame that we are losing the only 2 channels that celebrate music history and an inspiring era of HIP HOP and PUNK. With more than 200 channels available - there MUST be a home for PUNK 29 and BACKSPIN 43.
Of course I originally subscribed to the service for Howard Stern, and I've come to love Bubba the Love Sponge and Ferrall. At the same time, I found the music channels to fill that missing part of musical history that is mentioned above. I exclusively listen to PUNK 29 and BACKSPIN 43 for music on your service. And while the talk shows fill a few hours during the day, the music is (WAS) enjoyed for hours every night and all weekend. A one hour old-school show on ch. 40, and one hour with Marky Ramone on ch. 28 - WILL NOT SUFFICE!
This is my official plea - you MUST bring back PUNK 29 and BACKSPIN 43. Please let the voice of one subscriber (with three radios) speak for the many who've enjoyed this programming. I pay hundreds of dollars per year to enjoy this programming and my opinion needs to count.
Find a home for these musical pioneers, or lose a Sirius fan for life!

kamil212 11-12-08, 01:34 PM Worst day EVAR!!!
I listened to BoomBox when I woke up (DishNetwork), in my car, and premium online service at work.
I'm canceling all 3 as we speak. This is ridicules.
RAVEN56706 11-12-08, 01:44 PM doesnt really bother me... the playlist on backspin was horrible. there were some good songs but very horrible oldies..
i am happy to finally have a 90's station and still have the pulse.
i knew this would happen but still light years better than Ter. radio
suprememilo 11-12-08, 04:21 PM I really miss Boombox :(
kamil212 11-12-08, 04:58 PM Everybody needs to call and email them about BoomBox.
If there is enough interest they might consider bringing it back.
I really miss Boombox :(
HAHA me too! I mean I know every song they play on there but I love them all! The other two electronic stations play trash. Now I have to wait for Fridays on BBC Radio 1. I will call and complain.
Alright I just got off the phone with them and left my long rambling complaint. They were nice and said they have had others complain too. I urge you guys who miss Boombox to do the same. Make sure they bring your account up and log your complaint to the account.
kamil212 11-12-08, 05:29 PM I actually called, complained and cancelled.
At first (this morning) they gave me a free month.
I figured I wanted to make a point so I called again, complained and got transferred to cancellations again. They offered to put the service on a 5 month hold. I told them I want to make a point and she told me that she will put it down to make sure they know why I cancelled.
(I don't even care if I have to pay the activation fee again, I just want my Boombox back)
tehfoiler 11-12-08, 07:41 PM I sent an e-mail to complain as well, haven't gotten a response yet, but I plan on canceling once my year is up in Dec. Personally the censored Hip Hop channels were the kicker for me, that and I loved Buzzsaw. Overall I really hope enough people cancel so they will rethink this decision. Given how easy it is to listen to MP3s in your car, they are taking a huge risk with this move.
I'm more interested in a higher quality sound. So?

Great first post!! Let me know who you sent this too and I'll do the same.. Can't wait until they cancel Bubba and then watch the revolt!!
clskinsfan 11-12-08, 10:31 PM I want to know how the hell you can cancel Buzzsaw. Its a shame really. I hope Boneyard is half as good.

bubba like in bubba the love sponge....
lol.... revolt! really!
not....
thestaton 11-13-08, 08:39 AM I'm more interested in a higher quality sound. So?
we lost that as well. the audio quality yesterday was terrrrible.
here's my email:
Just wanted to say thanks for the heads up on the channel change, nothing like going to my car and finding out Stretch, Devore & Diana, and one of my favorite channels Maxim radio had been cancelled.
I understand people are hired & fired everyday, but just out right firing the gang at Maxim with no warning to your listeners was a classless thing to do.
Also wanted to say thanks for not only canceling Maxim, but thanks for moving Cavino and Rich's time slot. There is nothing I'd rather listen to more than a 60 year old man (Jay Thomas), whom probably doesn't have one thing in common with my demographic. I can tell you really thought this out.
What's that? You also removed Back Spin my go to channel for when guests where in the car and made the alternative censored! What the hell? I thought the point of paying for service was to get it uncensored? What would it look like if HBO decided it would be best to censor there content with no warning to there customers?
It's also awesome that I lost Punk & Buzzsaw, now I only have to worry about two presets.
What's next are you going to censor Howard & Bubba? While your at it, it would probably be a good idea to reduce the sound quality to that of channel 108. I love the new clarity, it reminds me of 1996 when I was first encoding mp3's.
Oh, now we can talk about sports.
Thanks for promising MLB and then letting that fall through. Also thanks for taking away the NBA & College Sports and expecting me to pay you EXTRA to get it back! What kind of **** is that? How do justify this?
As a huge ambassador to Sirius over the past 4 years, I can say that my life time subscription will be taking a back seat to the iPod. I can count on that not changing, not being censored, and offering bass inducing sound quality.
Thanks for stabbing your long time listeners in the back, you can count on me to never recommend your product, and I will probably make sure by the end of November that I will have spent countless hours, letting everyone who will listen to stay away from your product.
We can tell that Mel is a man of his word. All of those comforting speeches on Howard promising your loyal customers that nothing would change.
I'm patiently waiting a response.
barbie845 11-13-08, 10:08 AM Baseball season was over by the time this consolidation started.
If SiriusXM survives by next Spring I'm sure everyone will be able to receive it on their units.
I want to know how the hell you can cancel Buzzsaw. Its a shame really. I hope Boneyard is half as good.
It is.. Buzzsaw was not what it could have been. All we got was half of Hair nation with the rest filled by ozzy and george thorogood. You will like Boneyard.
bonscott 11-13-08, 01:03 PM I want to know how the hell you can cancel Buzzsaw. Its a shame really. I hope Boneyard is half as good.
If youre a fan of classic hard rock, Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple,Queen, AC/DC etc then Buzzsaw is better. Boneyard plays more of the Hair Bands, Whitesnake, Winger, Cinderella etc.
Posted this over at DBS Talk, but I'll add it here as well:
Boombox used to be really good, then it got sloppy, then somewhat better, then downright horrible (rock remixes? WTF), now its totally gone. Gee thanks.
Backspin was GREAT, now its gone too... very say :(
Everyone on the Sirius forums always said "BPM is better then The Beat, you'll see" and since I had access to XM's channels thru DirecTV I already knew this would be an improvement. Face it the Electronic/Dance selection has been gutted, no more Strobe, no more Boombox, no more Remix (pre-dates Boombox), no more Chrome, no more System. Not everyone listens to Rock or Pop... is management not aware of this?
I was hoping with merger (and ala-cart option) we would able to mix-n-match Sirius channels and XM channels, but instead they are condensing everything down into one more focused (read: mainstream) channel list. For now I'm just thankful that 1st Wave survived as its much better then XM's Fred.
Overall the changes suck big time... however I was driving my wife's non-sirius-equipped vehicle and local FM radio is completely worthless! I simply can't listen to it at all, so I'm keeping my Sirius account.
Ferguson77 11-13-08, 04:54 PM I heard on Bubba's show Buzzsaw will be back January 15th.

I had XM for about 3 years. Last year I wanted to try Sirius and got hooked by E Streat radio. so I gave my wife my old XM Roady. I have tolerated Sirius for the year, but always felt the playlists were thin. SQ was much better on the current Sirius than the old Roady, so I made do. but in the last 24 hours I was reminded what I liked best about XM...DeepTracks. Sirius had nothing as close to 1970's AOR as this. I didnt realize how much I missed it. Now, if all goes to plan....Deep Tracks will be deep sixed by next week!
FYI: If you don't like the new lineup, call and complain and have them register the complaint against your account. Since they are tracking the number of people who have complained and what channels they are complaining to have changed back. So maybe 43 - Backspin will be back soon!!!
My two main channels were the vault and buzzsaw and both got whacked.
Rammitinski 11-14-08, 03:20 AM No Vault, no me. Especially the late-weeknights show "Progressions".
Hardtail67 11-15-08, 10:49 AM I'm with you. The Vault was my number one station. Of course number 2 was Buzzsaw. Both gone:mad: Deep Tracks is a very poor substitute.
Why is it that XM people like the XM line-up and Sirius people like the Sirius line-up? It is because that is what they're used to.
I have been XM and so far, the jury is still out but Hair Nation has played David Lee Roth three times in two days and The Boneyard would never repeat artists so much, esp. D.L.R., which they never really played anyway, Boneyard was harder edge.
Deep Tracks, Classic Vinyl, Squizz, Octane, Hair Nation, Boneyard, they're all the same......just different.
Rammitinski 11-15-08, 04:24 PM No, I've heard Deep Tracks enough, and I just didn't care for it. They didn't play the sort of music I liked as much as The Vault did, even if they didn't repeat songs as often. There was a difference in the playlists. The Vault really catered to my tastes, especially with their Prog Rock.

deep tracks blows....
It seems to me that the Bluesville playlist (74 on Sirius) has been evolving over the last week. I was really torqued off with the initial switch from Sirius Blues (broader playlist, but a lot of it wasn't even really blues or blues artists -- Jeff Beck is great, but he ain't blues). Over the last couple of days they're actually playing Howlin' Wolf, Buddy Guy, and lots of other old and new blues artists.
I still miss the Sirius Blues DJ's who are apparently gone (except Pat St. John). Many are truly blues artists and afficianados.

In the January issue of Behind the Mic, it states:
Backspin & The Strobe Are Back
You asked. We listened! Disco/classic dance and old-school hip-hop will be back on the air due to popular demand.
Back on January 15
Backspin will be on CH. 39 (currently Pop2k), and The Strobe will be on CH. 81 (currently Cinemagic)
TheWinstonWolf 01-07-09, 06:38 PM deep tracks blows....
It puts me to sleep.
Rammitinski 01-07-09, 07:47 PM It puts me to sleep.Yeah, I was listening to it again in my buddy's car a few days ago, and I just can't get into it, no matter how open-minded I try to be. I just don't care for the playlist. I normally welcome hearing stuff I've never heard before - but not if it sucks.
mjones73 01-08-09, 08:54 PM I called tonight to cancel my radio that was on hold and was told Boombox is coming back also, supposed to be a press release in a week about the new line up. Take that info any way you like, it came from a CSR at Sirius.

Man I hope you are right about Boombox! I will be so happy.
