View Full Version : Acoustic treatment options for windows?

I've begun my effort to acousticly treat my mixed use media room. Putting up some panels on the left wall at the 1st and 2nd reflection points will be easy. However, I have a large double hung window that overlaps the reflection points on the right wall.

Since this is not a dedicated theater room, I don't want to fill in the windows with fiber panels. From reading here, it sounds like heavy drapes will do some good, but far from a perfect solution. Are there any affordable acoustic curtians? What have you folks done with windows?

Thanks

Mike,
I have used roller shades made of heavy fabric for taming reflections from glass windows. They look pretty decent also. You can customize them to fit your decor.

The heavy velour or velvet curtains hung loosely in folds with an air space behind them would actually be reasonably effective and good value for dollar. You might consider a similar approach on the opposite wall, instead of panels, for acoustic symmetry.
