This is my first time on the site and I am new to the HD world. I just bought my Samsung ln52a650 lcd television and love it! Only thing is that When I turn it on the display says 60 Hz not 120 like i should be getting. Do I need to spring for the real expensive monster 12' cable like the salesman suggested? the hdmi run is between 8-12 feet. I currently have the unit connected with a wirelogic 1.3 hdmi cable, 12'. I really want to have my tv live up to it's full potential. I thought maybe I needed to turn a certain setting on the television so I called Samsung. they said I need a hdmi cable capable of running 120 hz. Please HELP! My head is spinning from all the different answers that i am getting!!! Thanks.

no. you don't need "120hz" cables, as there is no such thing as a "120hz" source... you'll never get "120hz" input... at least not for the foreseeable future, and then you'll need a new display anyway, since your existing one won't know what to do with it...
120hz is in reference to the refresh rate of your display, and your cable does not care one whit about refresh rates...
go to the lcd forums on this site and search for your display... no doubt there is a menu setting that you are missing for refresh rate... also they will be able to tell you whether or not what you are seeing on your display is the input rate or the refresh rate...
again... do NOT let ANYONE talk you into "120hz" cables...

As a cable vendor, let me just echo ccotenj's statements above...there is no such thing as a 120Hz cable. Those who tell you otherwise are mistaken (well, some of them might be dishonest, but most of 'em are just mistaken...). I suspect that you are seeing your input frame rate, not your refresh rate, but a look at the manuals should clear that up.

I have a Samsung 630 and I can tell you the box you are seeing is simply telling you the resolution and frame rate of your source. It will provide that information for any source, and it is not dependent on the cable. This feature is handy though because it helped me figure out that my Xbox was set to 420p

No, and anyway the 120hz feature in the Samsungs is done in the samsungs, not in the player. There are menu items to turn this on and off, which you can select for your preference. The display will show you what the input signal is, not whether or not you're using the frame interpolation to 120hz feature. I personally dislike this for critical viewing, particularly for film content, but it does look pretty neat for sports.
