Hi all. I recently moved to a new house and it looks to be wired for...something, but since I'm a complete novice, I have no idea what. I've attached pictures to show exactly what is here.


The first picture is where everything seems to originate from; upstairs living room. There are three sets of the yellow wire, labeled 'Master Bedroom', 'Master Bathroom', and 'Living Room'. Then there is a set of Blue Wires. The blue wires say 'AAMP WIRE AW 162 CL3 16 (UL)' on them.

Now, it seems like the 3 sets of yellow wires go to 3 blank face plates scattered about the house, specifically master bedroom, master bathroom, and downstairs living room. I've shown 1 below, closed, then open.

Downstairs, there are two speaker mounts on the ceiling. I've attached a picture of the mount and a close up of the wire.

This thing is also located on my ceiling in the basement, but I'm thinking this just might be a place for a ceiling fan that hasn't been used yet.

Like I said, I'm a complete novice, so any help at all is appreciated as to what the heck is running through this house.

If it is set up for sound all through the house, what would I need to get it up and running?

The last pics are for a light fixture or ceiling fan. The yellow wires are speaker cable. They go to the wall plates for a volume control, then to the ceilings for the speakers. Not sure about the blue wires.

From your pics and description, the blue and yellow are sheaths for the individual 16g wiring contained within. It seems your blue one may be 16/2 (2 strands of 16g) and the yellow one may be 16/4 (4 strands of 16g).
