Hello,

Hopefully someone here can help. I am currently running my HTPC to my projector over a 10m DVI cable, and all is working fine. Now I want to relocate the PC, but it will now be closer to 15m from the projector. Can I use a DVI -> HDMI adapter at the PC and an HDMI -> DVI adapter at the projector, and then just get 15m of HDMI cable? Either one 15m cable or two 7m cables with a joiner?

When I first configured my PC it seemed that a 10m DVI cable was pretty much the limit. I had to lower the refresh rate a bit to eliminate the dreaded sparklies. And I have heard that HDMI cable have a longer max length.

The projector has a native resolution of 1366x768, which I figure should be fine with HDMI, since most cables now say they can handle up to 1080p. I also figure this will be money well spent since when I finally get around to replacing my projector (in a few years), the new one will probably have HDMI (won't it?).

Thanks,

They're the same cable, so you are misinformed.

Since you need DVI, it's best to avoid the added connections and get a DVI cable, preferably the highest quality possible. My best-cable recommendation for DVI/HDMI is the Belden stuff which is sold (only) by blue jeans. There are some cheaper options also from sellers like monoprice, which may also work fine.
