My wife is, so by proxy it is on in the room that I am in. Trying to convince her that SVU on the DVR will be much better.

WABC-HD FiOS TV.

Seems like there are a few audio problems.
People start to sing and their mics are off or very low till it's fixed a few second later.

Anyone watching the HD and SD feed notice the abc logo is a bit out of the 4:3 safety area?

WABC-DT
Anyone else have their HD feed drop out to SD?
The audio went out of sync when the feed went to SD.

Now between the feed switching from HD to SD, the feed has no video.
A few seconds ago I saw saw the logo animation for Nightline :P

Is this a local or network issue?

TWC-HV NY, yes dropping and switching between SD and HD...audio out of synch.

at least with no picture you don't notice that the audio is out of synch.

11-12-08, 09:36 PM
My guess is it's a network issue cause I don't know how WABC could be showing the Nightline logo animation in HD.

Odd WABC would be having so much trouble since WABC is next door to ABC.

Screen caps, where are the screen caps?

Shania Twain was in the house and OMG! She looked amazing.

Carrie also looked great!

Screen Caps... we need some screen caps!

It looks as if ABC was not capable of producing a quality event. All night the audio was haphazard. Taylor Swift's performance only had the center channel operating, the music sounded like it was in a tunnel and what did make it through the speaker made her voice sound terrible.

If I was her publicist, I would be fuming.

She sounded like crap and so did Pickler. They both looked good though. That's all I saw.

Agreed. Taylor Swift has an awesome voice, but on this show it sounded horrible. I wondered if maybe they had two or three sets of microphones and one of the sets had a limited sound range (maybe due to the wireless nature). Martina, Darius Rucker, and George Straight all sounded fine to me. I also wondered if Martina had her husband John (?) at the mixing board, as she often does.

10-1 via OTA in Sacramento. I have only watched the first half of the show so far, but I have not seen any drops to SD, or any lip-sync issues.

CMT....just not HD:

Saturday, November 29, 2008 9:00 PM ET/PT

ABC does not produce these events they are produced by independent production companies and aired on ABC. The QC and making sure the image and audio quality makes it home alright is ultimately is the network's responsibility but they do not handle the production. Entertainment is different from the way sports generally works.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. Does ABC have any ability to make sure the audio quality problems discussed here are corrected in future productions?

Yes. Specify to the CMA that they not use the same company anymore.

From what I could tell, the WABC-DT issue was a LOCAL issue. It looked like they switched the video feed to SD but left the audio on from the HD feed leaving the sound a good 1-2 seconds off. Switched over to my local yahoooo broadcaster and it looked just fine in HD.

I was wondering if there was an audio issue while I was watching last night & now it seems my suspicions were correct.

I got home just in time to catch the last part of the show. I had the audio turned down because I'm not a country music fan but wanted to hear the Eagles. When I saw them appear I turned the sound up and noticed a clear difference between the instrumentation and the vocals. I could barely hear Don Henley.

Well more accurately I would probably find out who the Production Company was, demonstrate what you found to be bad, give specific examples, make sure it wasn't just a local issue so this doesn't appear to just be someone ranting. A good production company will go back and look at the air check or contact ABC and see if anyone noticed any issues. The hiring of a production company is somewhat of an involved and convoluted process, but most of these shows are handled by professionals who are generally regarded as being the very best in the business in this particular field. You have people who have multiple large scale, complex events (Academy Awards, Grammys, Olympics, Inaugurations, etc) under their belts who are intimately aware of the challenges of staging a difficult complex live show with as many moving parts as the CMA's.
