I currently have and am quite happy with a CRT projector. However the upgrade bug has been nipping at me more and more lately.
Are there any (preferably 1080P) digitals in the under $3K category yet that can give me anything close to my CRT blacks?

Joseph,
Short answer is the latest crop of 1080p digitals will have excellent blacks. I would look at the Epson Home Cinema 6500UB when it comes out later this month or December.
I went from a Barco 1209 on a 106" 16:9 screen to an Epson Powerlite 1080p LCD with 110" wide 2.40 screen and anamorphic lens and I will never go back to CRT. Of course the blacks on the 1209 are superior but so many more things better on the Epson like perfect focus edge to edge, not to mention the convenience factor, size, heat, noise. And the new 1080p digitals will be much better than my Epson 1080. Combine one with BluRay and a 2.40 screen and decent anamorphic lens and I guarantee your movie watching will taken to a whole new level.
