I have a Digital Projection Highlite 6000Dsx that is defective. It's a 3 chip 1280x1024 4000 lumen PJ. I got it that way at an auction, so I don't know it's history.
Black is displayed as bright green, and a grayscale ramp starts out bright green at the low end and ends up magenta at the high end. The color primaries all display when the appropriate test pattern is input; i.e. no color is "dead". I have verified the same behavior via VGA, component, s-video, and DVI, and I have tried various color space and clamp settings. Both the internally generated test patterns and external patterns from a Quantum Data 802BT generator show the same problem.
I removed the top cover and inspected the circuit board. Things look very clean; overall it looks like it could have been manufactured last month. However, there is a chip that has a large amount of flux on and around it, almost like a blown capacitor. The chip is IC3704.
Does this sound like a problem with the light engine or that IC chip? Any suggestions?
Thanks!
