What is the expectation of the VP on the RS20? Are people planning to use an external VP or stick with the onboard?

I'm going to continue to use my VP50 Pro for awhile. It has a pass through mode and I can use it to switch inputs. It also has some nice features that aren't available on the JVC.

Vast majority of new sales do not include one (from me at least). But, I am certain some people have them already and will utilize them.

Onboard for me. I don't need anything at this point that the onboard can't supply.

What aspect ratio will it do that the RS20 won't?

The HDP will squeeze a 16:9 picture to a 4:3 aspect ratio if you plan on using an anamorphic lens and leave it in place all the time.

My hope is that the RS20 will do well enough that I can get rid of my VP50pro. While the Pro and I get along amicably enough, my girlfriend, kids and others don’t get along with it very well. I’m often out of town and it’s a frustrating experience talking the little lady through problem caused by a macro miss fire. I’ll loose SDI, but I never could tell a difference with SDI over HDMI anyway.

Not me. BR player sends it 1080p/24, and Comcast hd sends it 1080i or 720p, which I think the RS20 will handle very well. And the Reon is even supposed to do a good job with sd tv (BR player has a Reon for upconversion of sd dvd's.)

I'm using a 2:05:1 screen too for similar reasons (variable image size with 4 way masking).
